Whenever I come into this thread ya'll are talking about Brand New (or Aerosmith lmao).

Theres been alot of bands that have members who have done something disgusting, hateful, disrespectful, regretful, etc.

I'm not sticking up for Brand New at all, because I also have completely written them off. But just curious, why is Brand New pretty much the only band you all talk about in this thread?

Again, I'm on YOUR side. But just genuinely curious.

 

the weight BN had on the scene as well as the personal lives of a huge portion of this websites userbase makes them a pretty popular topic. the allegations against JL and the subsequent fallout hit people (myself included) a lot harder than some other allegations that might surface here and there.

It's also just a current event that's going on...

 

They just announced a reunion tour AND a new victim came forward with their story. Seems pretty relevant to continue the BN discourse.
But also correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think they were really discussed much here in recent years until Jesse first announced those solo shows a few months ago.

 

Rumors would pop up because somebody heard this or a webpage got updated or something, but it used to be pretty sporadic

 

as far as I can tell there was a significant period of this website that was defined as much by brand new as any other act

 

Everyone needs to brace for impact in a day or two.

I was hoping it was this. Someone else implied they might have an announcement coming up so that’s why I was asking.

I go through my Facebook memories every day and delete the horribly cringey “how cool am I for liking the dropkick Murphys!” Posts lol

 

Because this band meant a lot to some of us? Like honestly I found AP back in the day because I wanted to keep up with updates about the band.

I didn’t really think about them that much while they were “gone.” (Only when I got deep into convos about my music taste & how it was formed.)

But this reunion has brought up a lot of feelings. And this is possibly the only online space to talk through them without any victim blaming or minimizing of Jesse’s actions. So of course, former fans who feel grossed out by this “comeback” want to talk about it.

But yeah, I have smoke for other bands. For example, I think Ryan Adams being back on tour is terrible. (And shows how hard it is for even famous women to get justice in situations like this.)

 

It’s all been erased, but people went on a multi-day, lengthy treasure hunt that involved using GPS coordinates and going into the woods and digging in the hopes of discovering a new Brand New song. Then it just ended up being a quasi Brand New side project.

 

I do get a little frustrated by it at times too that they seemingly are the only band talked about in this thread but I think all the reasons other users pointed out are valid…”the bigger they are harder they fall” type of deal and no one in this forum was bigger

 

I'm going to sit with everything mindfully for a while, take some more time to grieve, and figure out how to best share what I've accessed. But pretty devastating to see one of the earlier posts with just the lyrics to Me vs Maradona and then "23 days til my dreams come true."

 

They're not the only band talked about in this thread though. They're the only band being talked about in this thread right now.

Just some of the obvious ones that came to mind, but while BN is def in the lead topic wise, it doesn't seem dramatically out of step with the audience lol

 

Phoebe Bridgers was talked about in here for like a week because of Marshall Vore. If you started coming into the thread that week, sure it would look like all that's talked about is Phoebe Bridgers. It's almost like people discuss the current event at the time.

And this is the biggest current event next to Kanye being whatever the fuck nazi shit he is. And it's with a band that was a huge part of this community. So yeah they're gonna be talked about for awhile, especially with more upcoming bombs about to drop. Doesn't erase the other 550+ pages, or whatever y'all's settings are at, of discussing everyone else.

 

You should probably check Matty Healy specifically. lol
