Unfortunately this was my immediate thought too and it's unfortunate that I still know the album enough to get the reference
fuck BN. i used to idolize them, and they were one of the biggest inspirations for me in terms of my own writing style, but their constant attempts to flicker back into public consciousness is so embarrassing. so tone deaf. they have no accountability or greater consciousness about why they were exiled from the scene. especially in this political climate. how could i be bothered to rally any sort of excitement or sympathy for a band who has only used their voice to suppress and self-celebrate, showing up only when convenient to them (even post-expelling), and never used their platform in any meaningful change within the scene? like, as an adult now, when i retroactively think about stuff like Deja and TDAG, it makes me mad that they’d point out all these cumbersome and vile aspects of society but never really offer avenues to combat those things. i wrote it off as the mystique of the band, and maybe times were different back then, but comparing them to artists now who do speak out about things in and outside the the studio, far more than just a daft and morose metaphor, is just night and day. we don’t need a band like this anymore. especially when they have wrongs that they have neglected at every turn. i hope the outrage towards them grows louder at each subsequent attempt until they whimper and decay.
