Damn. Most of the extent of my knowledge of him/the band comes from like...reading about the history of Pet Sounds and watching Love & Mercy, I guess. I knew about his mental health issues but did not know this. Huge bummer.
Haha yeah I mean I'm not starting a rallying cry to cancel Brian Wilson. I've spent more time in the past 2 years listening to the Beach Boys than any other artist, probably. They (maybe Carl and Al are innocent) were just not good people. Brian has done a lot of reflection and his memoir does a good job talking about it, but he does not come out like the innocent misunderstood soul that I think a lot of people characterize him as.
I feel like it was pretty normalized in the 60s for someone in his 20s to pursue someone in her early teens. This is (hopefully obviously) not a defense; shoutout to the incredible movie Priscilla for highlighting how toxic that dynamic was. But I imagine the details of this Mike Love thing are gonna be an even higher degree of disgusting.
yeah, not to defend mike love at all but he's really just one in a long, long line of rock stars who were getting into relationships with underage girls back then.
We don't need to "well actually" the relationship, lol. I'm aware of that. Brian was not a great guy across the board throughout his drug years.
Brian? I doubt it, I don't think that he was in any state to be a Maga guy. Mike Love is friends with Trump and has performed at shit in the past few years.
I said I wasn’t defending anything, lol. My take isn’t that Brian Wilson was totally a great guy. I just think there’s value in addressing the context.
I believe Brian Wilson married that girl when she was 16 and he was 23 if I recall correctly. Could be wrong
JustifiedArrogance in a nutshell. Lotta try hard takes, about half of which are lame, You get some good content along the way though.
