This whole story is something out of Arrested Development. I can just see Gob in the banana costume being pummeled and saying “they’re moshing with me Michael!”
Also, that would be funny, but End It is not the Denny's band. That's Live Without. I understand the confusion though, lol.
What does that have to do with what I said? Do you wear glowsticks to a movie theater? Would you wear a banana costume to a poetry reading? Not every artist or show is the same and if someone needs to wear a cartoonish costume or film/facetime/take photos throughout the whole show to have fun, I wonder how much they care about the artist they’re going to see.
Do you normally jump up and move around and have a communal moment at a theater or reading? Let's not pretend each scenario is the same, that's ridiculous.
thats exactly what I said: not every show is the same, know enough and respect the artist enough to gauge what’s appropriate. Bowling for Soup or 100 gecs is one thing, Sufjan Stevens or a hardcore show are another.
I feel like multiple people, myself included, have been pretty clear and reasonable about why bands may not like it, and at this point you have stepped away from having a conversation about it to being painfully obtuse about it.
I get what was said, but more ridiculous things keep getting added. It's one thing if it's disruptive or offensive, but we're getting out into the weeds of what "hardcore show etiquette" is.
Literally the post you responded to was about bands being annoyed by fans doing disruptive things. You saw "people shouldn't do goofy things for social media attention with costumes and props" and responded with "what happened to fun!?!?" Like...what they said wasnot ridiculous lol. You're a banana man.
The vibe I got from the post was that people are supposed to be attentive to the band; the comparisons to activities like seeing a movie or watching a reading which are passive forms of entertainment is not helping the impression. A rock show can be both active and passive, people are expected to move around and interact, although they certainly don't have to. I just think there's a disconnect between what behavior we're saying is okay for people to do at a performance. It's okay to slam into each other and crowdsurf but not okay to wear weird shit? And I'm not ignoring the whole "distracting to the band" thing we talked about, but there's just something off about this whole "this is acceptable, this is not" thing.
dave and pen should be embarrassed that theyre keeping this going. they won't be, but they should be.
A nice and easy description of what people are saying: Acceptable behavior: participating in the show/experience Un-acceptable behavior: disrupting the show with "LOOK AT ME!" behavior. Dance, jump around, mosh whatever. That's participating in the shared experience. But you're a fucking goofball to instead be focused on getting your impressions and likes up with "look at me i'm a giant loser behavior."
i have made exactly 0 posts in this thread until now about this, begging you to consult an optometrist. i have, certainly, made a few posts in other threads about how stupid this whole thing is, sure.
Wear what you want to shows (as long as it’s not racist/offensive) and don’t encourage your fans to assault a guy for wearing it. Getting your feelings hurt because someone’s banana suit ruined your day is childish as fuck.
Thats how it always is: some shows, certain things are acceptable/more acceptable, other shows, they aren’t. I don’t get your issue with that. Not every artist is the same.
