The worst smelling dude you've ever smelt is fine but the banana costume is the problem somehow. Also this. Banana guy has gotta go but rapists can chill because they're "good dudes, backed hard" as seen with Parkway Drive (not hardcore but they have roots in that scene) and their longtime merch guy, Jed "the Ped" Gordon.
dude is a weirdo wannabe influencer doing an updated version of filming the concert with your 3DS who cares
https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/1tyxt7f/hardcore_band_end_it_urged_the_audience_to_tear/ I don't usually like to link to Reddit, but I came across this thread discussing the incident. Besides the postings being overwhelmingly in favor of the guy, apparently banana costumes are a regular thing at shows? I haven't been to a show in a hot minute, not sure if this is accurate.
It didn't, his costume did have to be rebuilt before but presumably just from normal wear and tear. This is the first time this happened to him.
Yeah, I don't think the people saying he had main character syndrome or was attention-seeking were exactly wrong lol
Doesn't really excuse the incitement to bullying though, no? Feels weird that we're dismissing the action for details that are really incredibly ancillary.
For real lol, of all the things to rightfully be upset about with hardcore this seems like a non story
It certainly does not require this much discussion, but think it’s strange some of y’all are acting like this is nothing. The front person of a band yelling “hey everyone rip off that person’s clothes and you get a prize” is objectively fucked up. Make fun of the guy’s main character syndrome or whatever but instructing fans to assault him is a whole other thing
I'm sorry but the last five pages of this thread have been slime posting I think we can discuss the abuse of banana man.
Yes, banana costumes are things at show, seen it a few times. I personally enjoy watching the goofy outfit get at it in a circle pit. Wild that some of you dont see an issue with the band saying 'we dont like it, ruin it'. I saw unity tx and they did something similar that turned me off - they called out a guy for crowd surfing too much saying it was lame and unoriginal and they needed to see some different unique wild behavior (whatever that meant). Policing how your fans have fun is just lame, but its double lame and problematic when you tell the crowd to turn on someone for their choice of outfit.
It is similarly wild that some of you are like “oh well this is a thing so it’s okay” it’s a thing that fucking sucks lol it’s no different than dipshits getting on stage at hardcore shows to row in front of the band, it’s distracting and deliberately trying to draw attention away from the band and onto themselves. You are being dishonest if you cannot see why a band member performing would have an issue with it. I don’t think he should have taken it that far but to act like they’re the ones to blame here is wild.
Also crowdsurfing does suck IMO UnityTX was right on that one, it makes almost everyone a participant in your bullshit and is stupid
I'm not following what concern you're trying to demonstrate. What harm is it causing and who is it distracting? The band? The audience? To me the costume and whatever reason for wearing it is really irrelevant unless someone can give me a good reason why it matters enough to ruin someone's night?
The concern to the band is “I’m trying to entertain an audience and you’re running around distracting from that because you didn’t get enough attention as a child.” Annoying to be sure. Probably the same as heckling during a comedian or at least in the same genre. “everyone strip that guy and assault him” is a shitty escalation vs. just saying “lol look at the idiot in the banana suit. He sucks. Here’s our next song!”
First, I'm glad we're starting from the same page that what the band did was not cool. I mean, it's irresponsible and potentially dangerous depending on how the crowd took their words. I still don't agree with the first part though. I mean, you're using the qualifier "running around" but if a guy is just standing in a crowd in a costume, how are they disrupting the performance? Why would the band be worried about that? "Heckling" is a deliberate interruption. Not the same thing at all.
You’re also high out of your mind if you think it isn’t distracting to the other people in the audience who paid the same amount as this guy to see the band. Even besides the obvious “wtf is that guy in a banana” thought that takes your mind off the stage for a second, i would imagine it obstructed the view of several people in the crowd
Wearing a giant yellow banana suit that visually screams “LOOK AT ME!” Is a deliberate interruption as well. It’s weirdo behavior like “how can I possibly make this night about me.” But if we were assaulting people for being weirdos half this website wouldn’t be safe lol
