Two more reports of sexual assault from Michael Tait. One of them is from the former manager of Evanescence and the assault took place in 1998 during DC Talk’s run. He also goes into detail about Tait casually assaulting random men as far back as 94-95 which was the era of Jesus Freak. So, yeah. There’s the confirmation now that it was absolutely happening during the DC Talk era as well.

maybe this is the wrong thread, but something I've been thinking about for a while... lots of people on Chorus use Spotify links to share music on the forum. how does everyone feel about it? personally I really don't like it, I think Spotify is uniquely evil and when there's so many better alternatives like Bandcamp first and foremost, but even Apple Music or Tidal who, to my knowledge, are not force feeding AI music/playlists onto their services, and in addition they are not (yet?) forcing AI powered age verification on their users... at what point do we as a bunch of music lovers on this site have a responsibility to discourage the use of Spotify in particular? curious if anyone has thoughts on it, because I think about it every time I see a spotify link on here, and I fear their policies are only getting more regressive and harmful to the music we all love.

I checked it out, mostly seems to be discussion of what people like/dislike about the various streamers for their own personal use. to be clear, that's not really what i'm talking about here. i don't use any streaming service, just buy/download everything I like and add to my library. that works really well for me, but when it comes to listening to music, everyone has their preferences and the things that work for them/their lifestyle. what i'm struggling with though is specifically people posting spotify links on here in order to promote/share music. especially when something is on bandcamp, seeing a spotify link posted for it instead makes me feel icky. and not only because spotify is a disgusting company with horrible values but also, just on a logistical level, anyone can listen to the music in an embedded bandcamp link, but you can't listen to the song/album/whatever on an embedded spotify link unless you have a spotify membership.

 

I think it's a nice thought and a lot of us can try to actively incorporate it moving forward, but I don't think it's practical to make any kind of rules surrounding it

 

not suggesting rules, but i think avoiding the promotion of spotify in any way shape or form is a really easy way to be accountable as music fans, and it will also result in a better user experience on the site.

 

Spotify is terrible and not just for the AI garbage. Bandcamp has its own series of issues, mass firing of 50% of their staff (including over 80% of their BIPOC, and trans/non binary staff at the time), attempting to union bust. Tidal and Apple have their own issues as well, there's no real ethical consumption in the streaming world.

Replying to this again not to gloat or dunk, but since Justin Timberlake came out today to say he was/is battling Lyme disease on this tour. I’m not immune to jumping in on knee jerk Internet criticism (I think Steve told me to cool it with calling Bruce Willis a lazy asshole prior to his diagnosis with aphasia). I think sometimes in less urgent cases of criticism, we just need to take a beat and offer some grace.
