Oh damn. Not familiar with Olivia Dean but I love me some Sam Fender. Sounds like a great gateway drug. Thanks!
I always wondered if hip hop fans or African Americans in general are offended by the way kpop and jpop seem to use their culture when both of those countries are historically racist towards black folks.
((okay, off work so i'm collecting my thoughts/getting to this now)) All Day Project (or ADP) just look up the member "Tarzzan" for an example..... (don't even get me STARTED on that motherf-) a good amount of us, yes! the consistent disrespect from the Labels (who are a BIG offender behind this shit) who approve of their idols (and set them up) wearing durags, putting their hair in box braids/cornrows, making "hip hop" concepts and dressing their idols like Black people the Idols themselves who should know better (they got the same internet we do, i'm not cutting them slack) for all of the above (oh my god don't get me started on Kiss of Life's bday livestream last year holy shit) the racist ass fans who will either say "how could they know better, they don't know American culture!!" or deny that anything they do actually comes from Black culture like... i enjoy kpop where i can, i just stay away from anyone who tries to put on a "Hip-Hop concept" bc it always comes off as inauthentic to me. i don't care if the idols enjoy the genre themselves, most of them really can't interact w HipHop without performing Blackness (whether they mean to or not) (sorry, i have a lot of feelings abt this)
a friend of mine talks about this a lot too. sometimes you hear stans defending it as like genuine fusion or influence but it really seems like 95% of the time it’s just dress up for the artists. there’s room for a genuine thoughtful respectful and importantly chiefly musical (not aesthetic) fusion but i don’t think it’s out there currently
It's okay to not like awful, boring music. This is a genuinely terrible use of the accountability in music thread.
Well, good thing that conversation organically ended like two days before this post, and didn’t get in the way of any important conversation during its short duration, and even organically led to a different “accountability”-related topic.
Am I missing something other than he cheated on his wife? Like...that's definitely scummy behavior but is it something the public needs to know and have an opinion about?
it's awful, and John is pretty awful for doing all this - but I always had in the back of my mind a bit of suspicion since he's the only real constant member of PTM. Anytime it's like that with a band, I tend to wonder if that one central figure is "difficult" to be around/work with, and, well. ... also, saw PTM last year in Oakland and while the show was great, I did notice an overall lack of enthusiasm from the musicians, and it did seem like Zoe just silently left the stage after the show without any fanfare/postshow group bow or any of that. The dynamic felt off, basically. hate to see all this, PTM made some great music but John does NOT come across well at all with any of this. it's a shame.
well, Zach and John were both the only constants in the group since the beginning (and Anatomy), so when he left it definitely felt weird... now it makes more sense
I'm sure the PTM guy is an asshole but cheating is still none of my business even with a wall of text to accompany it
Young MC, C+C Music Factory, and Morris Day & The Time all dropped out too, Morris claims he never even agreed to play on the first place
