I’m sure I’ve heard songs by them plenty without knowing who did ‘em. But I wouldn’t be able to identify them.

Maybe I should give Olivia Dean a shot, since I tend to love popular songwriter girlies. But I don’t need a new songwriter man in my life; sorry, Noah.

To go back to “accountability”-related people, I also don’t think I know what Morgan Wallen’s voice sounds like? So maybe I’m just old and out of touch, lol, in spite of having some favs like Olivia Rodrigo in my life.

i think i've only heard a couple seconds of an Olivia Dean song, and it sounded a tiny bit Raye-adjacent? maybe i'd enjoy that since i enjoy her stuff

She definitely is in the same "throwback but modern" space that Raye is, but a different enough lane. I didn't think Olivia's new album is nearly as good as 21st Century, but it's got multiple great songs

This Olivia Dean feature is really good, I’d put her above Raye even if they’re going for a similar sound

Olivia Dean strikes me as the Norah Jones of this generation. Doesn’t blow me away but she’s a reliable Grammy darling that has a good voice and easy listening jazzy pop songs.

Oh she’s in kind of a Raye space? “Joy.” is probably my favorite song of the year so far. (Though I’ve still listened to the Poppy album more than the Raye one; maybe that’ll change now that it’s getting much warmer.)

If you’ve been in a Target, Cheesecake Factory, or Starbucks you’ve heard Olivia Dean.

I haven’t been to a Target in over a year.

Also tend to avoid Starbucks, though I did get dragged there for work after our end-of-the-school-year lunch.

i only go to Target if i desperately can't find a particular item anywhere else (like a replacement for a specific type of storage bin when i moved). the vast majority of the time i'd rather go anywhere else these days.

I had gotten into a rhythm of going pretty often as a way to break up the monotony of going to Walmart, in spite of being pissed about their cowardice with pride stuff. But then there was that boycott led by black activists, and I was like, hey. This is a targeted boycott for good cause of a thing that is part of my life and easily could not be. And I haven’t been there since.

Now I do still go to Walmart, which obviously isn’t a good company, lol. But like, something something ethical consumption, etc.; at least it feels good to boycott a company that has actually felt the effects of the boycott.

same here. it would take a hard pivot in the other direction to get me to consider regularly shopping at Target again, but even then, i just don't really feel the need to anymore unless it's a niche item. i only really shop at Walmart nowadays because i live right next to one, but most of the time i go to Hy-Vee, ALDI, or Trader Joe's when i'm on the other side of town (when i lived 5 minutes down the road from TJ though, i was there quite often).

Hmmm…. The only Starbucks I’ve been to was inside a Barnes and Noble. I may be marked “safe” from hearing any of these.
