I do think LLMs are not going anywhere and being able to use them is a good skill to have as someone in the workforce but I am deeply skeptical of them ever being used to improve the world on any grand scale as long as the world economy is organized as a system that demands infinite growth. Intense taxation of these companies is probably not even enough, they need to be socialized and de-oriented from profit in order to actually benefit humanity as a whole. This is plainly impossible in the US political system as-is. There would need to be restructuring of that system so vast that it could only be described as a political revolution even if it didn’t entail some kind of uprising.
