Wasn't the whole reason this first came out because they were starting to do reunion shows? So in his nearly 10 years of "active recovery" he never came to the conclusion he should probably forfeit his privilege to the thing that gave him access to do the things he's been trying to recover from? And it took the victims coming out more publicly? Gonna take it with a big grain of salt, but hopefully he actually sticks to his words and they aren't just performative to make himself feel better.
Exactly - they announced reunion shows, survivors came forward, and then he went on the story of recovery with the notes app apology.
Wasn't JJR of Keep Flying a close associate of The Swellers? That guy sucks and doesn't surprise me that a band he was close to has problematic people in it.
I mean JJR was friends with most of the pop punk scene from 2009-2015. That’s not really saying much. Tons of bands people loved in the scene were and still are friends with the dude.
Yeah, there isn’t a band from that scene that wasn’t right with JJR. Not that it’s okay, just that it’s not a particularly special characteristic.
I remember 20 years ago when The Daily Show and Ed Helms were dunking on him with Brendan Kelly. Michale Graves sucks.
Evan Dando’s management are peddling his recent allegations as a “misunderstanding,” so I asked about the other woman coming forward with receipts. They deleted my comment. Trash protecting trash; a tale as old as time.
I know this is probably a weird thing to focus on but the line saying "Becoming a parent further clarified what responsibility and impact really mean" read to me like all of those "having a daughter made me magically gain empathy" statements we've seen throughout the years which have always rubbed me the wrong way. I know what I feel is nowhere near as important as what any of the victims have gone through but man it's getting fucking exhausting hearing that sort of excuse
I'm right there with you. Men saying they found compassion for women, immigrants and/or the queer community because they're a father/brother/son is gross. The need to have a personal connection to a sect of people in order to see their humanity seems like it should be humiliating.
I think there's some truth in becoming a parent changing how you view the world/how you interact in it a bit. I think if you need to have a daughter to care about rape culture as an example, you suck.
Yeah, I remember when Kobe did all that “I’m a girl dad” stuff to kind of wash over committing rape. That forever sullied that kind of thinking for me.
the swellers had a circle of very diehard teenage girl fans around michigan. i knew some of em online peripherally but never figured stuff like that was going down. yiiiikes
