How does it make any sense to be empathetic towards someone who isn't empathetic themselves and puts their own personal and financial self-interest over the safety and well-being of millions of vulnerable people? Why should we include someone that wants to exclude and exploit others? We shouldn't tolerate intolerance.
I initially posted here because I felt sorry for the punkinthepark guy cos it seemed like he was getting bullied in here for simply having a political opinion. Then I realized what really pisses me off is what the democrats and their supporters say their values are and what they then do. I realize this isn't a political chat. Sorry. Also, I don't think its fair to tell off people like me for making what they believe are rational and intelligent critiques of the democrat party but not apply the same standard to comments made about Trump. Thanks for my 15mins of fame in this thread. I'm out per your request Jason.
it's not because his "political opinion," it's because of his personal actions to financially and electorally support a fascist who is violating constitutional rights of people living here and inflicting as much harm as he can on vulnerable people while ensuring that the rich get richer and our planet is further exploited and robbing us of clean air and water for our future.
I'd venture a guess you've at least taken, I dunno, a high school history class? So surely you know some people probably should be bullied for having certain political opinions? Can you think of a few that when you look back through time you go, "oh shit, you know what the lynching opinions were pretty bad?" or are you making an argument that literally zero political opinions are bad and worth fighting against? Let's at least set the stage. Once again, weird audience to keep trying to pin this democrat thing on, most of us pretty vocally do not like democrats? And you keep trying to make an argument that it's hypocritical to say "I believe in inclusion for all races, genders, etc." and then reject the people stating they want to harm those people as though their racist inclusion was ever on the table? This is ridiculous logic. Inclusion doesn’t require making space for people who are actively hostile to the principles of equality and human dignity. It’s not hypocrisy to draw a line at racism, sexism, or hate --* it’s consistent with the very values of inclusion and empathy! * I wrote this fuck gpt for stealing my em dashes.
Aww ain't that cute, standing up for the voiceless. Go forth little white knight, defend the poor helpless promoter.
“The party of inclusion” thing is a go-to GOP strawman. That’s like saying people shouldn’t set boundaries with people who treat them poorly or, you know, allow themselves to be abused. This is wildly reductive. Also a strawman. It’s not only fair, but 100% warranted. Yours are neither rational, nor intelligent critiques. They’re just repeating surface level talking points that I’ve seen hundreds of times, even using the same verbiage. Wholly unoriginal slop. There’s a million valid critiques of the Democratic Party and how shitty and feckless they are.
Benefit of the doubt should only be given if there is a genuine desire to discuss and learn. There is room for the intolerant to grow, but they have to be willing. The only reason I haven't cut off some people in my orbit (family excluded) is because, after many conversations with POC and other LGBTQ+ voices that are different than mine, I've learned that one exclusive tool I have as a white man is the ability to potentially change peoples' minds. And if someone strikes me as being capable of change and is willing to have the conversation(s), I usually will. If this guy is backstage telling bands he doesn't regret donating to Trump, it does not sound like he has any interest in learning or changing. Despite what his attempt at an ass-covering statement suggests.
Dude revealing how much of a mark he is by claiming his vote for Trump was because he thought he’d stop the wars lol.
Just popping in to say, I think the post that prompted this discussion is exactly where it needs to be. I know it’s the, “accountability,” thread, but bands taking a positive stance to call out actions of other bands, artists, businesses, etc… is just as meaningful here. Like, I don’t follow Dropkick, so I’d never go to their thread. Whatever.. all this to say, thanks for the knowledge.
None of this negates the evidence of abuse. Paris may be an unreliable narrator but this statement from a biased person does nothing but act as discrediting of Paris.
I’m sorry this all happened to these people but, aren’t these two in their 40s? Does this all REALLY need to be shared in public forums?
