Fuck 'em. My favourite band for years running and I know the 'peace and love' angle has kinda been their thing but between this and their relative silence on Palestine they are dead to me. There's a difference between being a band who are a genuine force for good & paying tribute to a white supremacist and stochastic terrorist. This SUCKS.
Such a dumb thing when someone dies and we have to pretend like they were a good person If anyone must comment on it, just say that you disagreed with his viewpoints or what he stood for, but like let's not shoot each other, guys. It's like a bunch of people falling over themselves to try to appear neutral or The bigger person or something? No clue but it's not necessary And like all of these artists could have also just said nothing lol like literally nobody was looking to them for the latest statement on charlie Kirk
Not to defend them, but in the clip, they say they are sending love to his family and don’t endorse his views or anything of the sort. I feel like the headline is slightly misleading.
Reposting from the Coldplay thread, I think the article is deliberately misleading. It was a dumb thing to say, sure, but I don't think there was anything behind it other than Chris Martin being an idiot and lacking situational awareness. _________ I think tribute is a very strong word to use, it sounds like it was just something said in the moment as an example of "send love to anyone you want, even people who suck".
i can't really explain it, just vibes. maybe because it''s 3 White guys in a Christian hard rock band from Nashville? plus the slight political bend to some of their mid-career output felt weird coming from a Christian-adjacent band like them (i.e. a loose narrative arc in some of their lyrics/music videos about fighting against an evil corporation bent on mind control/world domination). idk, I&I is still a pretty fun album for what it is.
I never watched their music videos so I can't comment on that but I've never gotten any political vibes from any of their lyrics.
never like overtly political, mainly just "anti-establishment" in the loosest sense (mostly on records like RTP, but you can hear it a bit on songs like Feed the Machine too). in principle, there's nothing inherently wrong with critiquing sociopolitical institutions, but it always feels weird to me coming from most artists in the Christian sphere (unless they're well-known for going against the grain of their contemporaries - Switchfoot used to be a decent example of this)
I actually always just assumed it was about being on a record label. But in any case, I miss when anti-establishment songs meant you were against the bad things and not secretly "Trump-supporter coded".
i mean that would've been alright, but considering that they put out six albums on that label, i'm assuming it was probably about something else. feel you on the latter point though. didn't Demon Hunter do something similar with one of their more recent albums? haven't kept up with them in years, but i could've sworn one of their previous records had a bit of some COVID-era anti-establishment lyricism on it
I have not heard anything about Demon Hunter writing a song about COVID or having done anything right-wing and I'd like it if we could stop trying to ruin more bands for me. :(
sorry about that, lol. i left the fold of organized Christianity almost a decade ago, so i just hear about stuff in passing about artists i used to listen to. have no clue what's actually going on.
Beyoncé & Jay-Z sitting at the same table as Jared Kushner & Ivanka Trump last night in Atlantic City (Sept. 14th). https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1nh6bqz/beyoncé_jayz_sitting_at_the_same_table_as_jared/
Wasn’t sure where to post this, I’ll delete if it doesn’t qualify. I was at Four Chord Fest today and Say Anything played. I wanted to see Alkaline Trio who played after, so I had to hear SA play. Before their last song, Max talked about how he was racist and then said something to the effect of being anti Jew because “Jews are greedy.” Super fucked up. They also played Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too. Which surprised me as I thought he had retired the song due to the lyrical content being gross. Just a gross way to end their set. Max sounded like shit regardless though.
They “retired” the song during #metoo, but then brought it back a couple of years ago with no explanation (I assume they realized people wouldn’t show up if they didn’t play the hits). A pretty spineless decision. I still really hate that MCS is taking them on tour with them.
The "Jews are greedy" bit is likely him being cheeky as he is pretty proudly and openly Jewish. Not sure what the racist comment was this time, but I saw videos of the last one. Definitely not good!!
