Recognized someone by username in that Reddit thread that is currently actively posting here lol

 

I know it's not really the point of the major discussion but I figured it's worth mentioning that on AP.net, I was legitimately scared to post anywhere other than album review comments because it seemed like people were so fucking vicious. Not once have I ever felt like that on here. People have always been so gracious, kind, and patient with me on here and that means a ton. I think the people on that Reddit thread who say they "miss the old AP" just want an excuse to mouth off at people again with minimal repercussions

 

Yeah I lurked for the majority of my time on ap.net for the same reason. It’s like two totally different worlds now.

 

I also largely lurked back in through AP.net days because people seemed so eager to look down on others and be aggro for no real reason. Took me a few years after the switch to even bother coming back here and it's a much kinder place to be by far.

 

Some of the posters that gave me the most shit are still on this site, we've just all grown up a lot lol

I was on the YCMB which was pretty chill and nice, everyone on there just talked about how mean and aggressive everyone on AP was. I was scared to post anything, but lurked forever. Once YCMB was nuked it took me years to start posting regularly on AP and when I did it was only in the Entertainment forum.

I think even as late as 2015, one of the few times I posted on a news item, someone called me a fucking idiot for asking if people still cared about Guns N Roses.

 

Well, were they right?

 

I don’t even know if I participated in the AP forums. Around that time I was on some smaller forums like the Punkrocks.net board and that was enough for me. I remember reading the AP forums and not feeling like I could penetrate the more outspoken factions that were a bit opinionated and aggressive.

 

About me being an idiot? Undeniably.

About GnR being relevant? Debatable.

 

They seem to be doing alright for themselves, and they've had a couple songs on the radio lately.

 

Random thoughts, but I remember there was that clique on AP that was genuinely mean to a lot of people, which made other people just as nasty and it was a very unfun time.

I remember I was so dumb and uptight that I told a poster he didn’t really watch a movie because he did it on the treadmill and probably wasn’t paying attention and we spent more time than needed to argue about that. Don’t know why! Just wanted to be a dick to someone, I guess!

It amazes me that Hayley Williams was a member back then, with pretty much no guardrails for random fans being weird to her because that just wasn’t really thought of.

 

Didn’t her fans from Brazil crash the servers?

 

I'll always remember people making fun of me for reviewing VHS in the Last Movie You Watched thread on AP.net, and now this site has an incredible Horror Thread

 

I remember lurking the YCMB because that dominick was a fucking dork lol

 

There were good mean posters who were super knowledgable about film/music that typically gets ignored here, and then there were people being shitty just to be shitty. We lost a lot of the former in the move

 

I was on AP I was probably an asshole sometimes but definitely not one of the bigger ones. Now I am easily the nicest and best poster on chorus.

super knowledgeable but super cliquey and gatekeep-y as well, most of them were decent enough to me but definitely don’t miss a lot of that attitude especially being old as hell now and just not wanting to deal with it.

 

Some of the hip-hop posters on AP were absolute awful on that front. Our thread feels like a total 180
