You can say "To fans of Brand New, please stop attacking (insert name). They're simply speaking their truth" without admitting legal guilt. Miss me with any form of "Jesse's done the work" redemption arc. And honestly, and part of this is me being angry, I think it's weird to use a charity event for a son you lost as a place to return the stage. Because now a cause I'm sure you care about is tainted by the stink of your past sins all over again.

 

They're a fan base that couldn't help themselves from attacking the band for playing their own music. I'm not surprised one bit they aren't the most rational bunch of losers out there.

 

The first replies I saw were about her proving her allegations and saying she ruined a man and family’s life. Then attacking her for bringing up that there were more victims. Which we knew already? Anyway, gross shit. But it’s the BN subreddit, so kinda expected.

 

i remember being on that subreddit from the time SF dropped until the allegations broke. lots of revisionism and nonsense like that.

 

It’s a private charity event, they’re not allowed to live their lives? It was never meant to be public.

 

Whether it was meant to be public or not, it’s gotten out every time it’s happened, and everytime it’s happened the organization they’re trying to raise funds for is in the same story as “reported sex pest.” Not ideal. Maybe just book a cover band and sit at the bar

 

I mean it’s THEIR organization: they started it.

 

Cool? So organize the event and book Kevin Devine. It feels incredibly weird to me to use it as a means to test the waters on a return.

For some reason I can’t post a picture of her insta post on here lol. But I do think it clears up that this was not meant to be some reunion or comeback attempt.

 

Intended or not, their entire career was based off doing something secretive and vague and letting the internet run wild so…..here we are lol

I personally don’t care what people do privately and you shouldn’t either. Don’t let it bother you, touch some grass, enjoy your life! If they announce MSG then you can get pissed off!

Kevin comments often on Andrea’s Instagram. Commented on the very post today she refers to them playing.

 

He called them friends back in September at the Ryman.

Yeah, it caught me off guard. Was the first time I had heard anyone say "Brand New" in a positive light in years.

 

Just want to say, and I know it’s something that’s said before - and this is no endorsement of Jesse or any groomer/abuser/etc. (also, not a comment on whatever Kevin Devine said) - but people who we want to see experience consequences for their actions could and should have friends that, hopefully, are also holding them accountable.

That’s not to say they should endorse them as an artist or give them back their platform, but actually make sure they’re kept in check and rehabilitating themselves and learning from their actions. I know there are some that just deserve to be kicked in a hole and never be heard from again, but others should learn from what they’ve done and grow as a person and they, no doubt, need friends to be a part of that process.

 

Pretty much how I feel anytime people bring up K-Dev alongside the Brand New stuff. If he tours with them again or something, it's a different story.
