Are people in the public eye/on the record terrified of retaliation if he wins?

(And, if they are, isn’t that motivation enough to do everything in one’s power as a public figure or agency or social/economic leader to stop that from happening?)

I really feel for Kyle Gass tbh. It was definitely not something he should have said onstage (even though we were all thinking it) but it seemed genuinely off the cuff and by all accounts he seems like a really good guy, and he also doesn't seem to have much going on besides Tenacious D/bit parts in Jack Black's movies. Really hope they're planning on letting it just blow over but Black's statement really kind of throws his decades-long friend directly under the bus

John // OC now, OH forever.

The same guy who wrote “The Government Totally Sucks” and who played Stalin plotting the assassination of Lenin for Mel Brooks, but this is where he draws the line?

Kyle also said it in Australia, where everyone laughed? No one in that arena gave a shit??? It’s just a joke, but the loudest voices condemning ‘cancel culture’ are always the quickest to shut down dissenting opinions

I feel for Kyle and disappointed in Jack throwing his bandmate under the bus. Whole situation is ridiculous

also, Disturbed headlined Download in the UK after David Draiman signed IDF missiles to kill Palestinians. Supporting genocide is OK but joking about Donald fucking Trump leads to Kyle Gass likely losing his career? Bullshit of the highest degree

Giving JB the most benefit of the doubt, I do wonder if the death threats seemed very real specially post an assassination attempt. If my best friend appeared to put my life in danger even by accident, I don’t think I’d be stoked either, but again, this is giving JB all the benefit of the doubt

And that's why you always leave a note.

I can't really process yet whether the actions taken against KG are hasty and extreme or not, but I will say that if we're publicly "encouraging" political violence, we're no better than the folks who encouraged it and led to storming the Capitol. So on the one hand, I do sort of get the swift call to action from the D camp. The situation reminds me a little of Fat Mike's snafu in Vegas a few years back. And yeah, I know we're talking about Trump here. Will I mourn him when he's dead? Not even a little. Would I call for someone to shoot him in the head on stage? No. Violence begets violence. Kyle said the quiet part out loud and probably shouldn't have. I do feel bad for the guy.

What I'm mostly pissed about is the fact that the blowback and outcry to all of this is seemingly much greater than when you see dead third graders on the news.

And then I read this and realize "well, those are great points..." so what the hell do I know?

  17. I mean, we’re all reacting in real time here - I don’t condone violence either but I don’t think a joke (poor taste, too dark, any reaction is valid) from a comedy rock band should garner such an over the top response!

I’ve had to cover this for work, and I’m honestly just so gutted for the fans here in Australia who waited ten years for this tour - many of whom travelled and booked accommodation if need be - and there’s been all this fallout, cancelling the remainder of the tour, over a joke… people in Trump’s camp - and his supporters, for that matter - likely say much worse about Biden daily

And that's why you always leave a note.

Yeah, perhaps a better approach would've been to apologize immediately and kept the tour running.

That was going to be my other point, there's stuff vocalized on the other side of the aisle almost daily on par with this, and no one holds them accountable. It's frustrating as hell.

Hey it's going to be a great rest of the year, isn't it guys?!?!? -_-

  19. I remember when RTJ performed at Coachella in front of a graphic of Trump's head exploding, and they were not joking. Whole thing is stupid.

Normally, when people get “cancelled” they make a career pivot to right wing grifter but that doesn’t feel like an option with this one for some reason.

    The spiciest meme

Kyle rocks for saying that, absolutely awful all this had to happen especially right after his birthday. It was definitely in his best business interest to not say it out in concert but only because people, and businesses, suck. Alternatively, it was in Jack's best business interest to do what he did but it makes him suck and he very much does not rock.

The other side absolutely says things just as bad with minimal to no repercussions, and that's before we even begin to unpack what happened on January 6th. The double standards are insane.
