I got a tiktok of women at a baseball game and they were eating ice cream and she said the commentators made sexual innuendos and the cameras stayed on them for a while while they licked the ice cream to keep it from melting everywhere. She gave a good speech about them making women feel unwelcome in sports and like we can't even exist in those spaces without being sexualized and have to be vigilant when doing basic human being things like eating. It's a bit different from those interviews cause it was a sports game and not just some amateur dude on the street, but she did relate it to the hawk toua woman so there is some interesting and needed discourse happening around these types of things. I guess in that scenario maybe you can just flip off the camera to get them to stop but it's ridiculous women even need to do that to stop being harassed.

 

Everyone using it to make stupid like "when my wife asked me what I wanted for fathers day" memes is awful and dumb and stupid but you're lying to yourself if you don't think people have made funny shit with it. The Blur video alone was worth all the bad memes that came from it.

RE: Hawk Tua. This is my favorite take.

 

I mostly like the ones where it's not being used as a BJ reference because that's just the obvious meaning of it. Subbing it in for a word that sounds vaguely the same is still getting me. Like this one:

 

It was funny at first but it’s also a women using her sexuality to kinda throw it back at some random mouth breather pestering her and her friend. If you watch the whole video he also asks her to demonstrate “hawk tue” after she says it. also keeps aggressively flirting with her friend. A lot of people I’ve noticed who don’t like the meme also aren’t really getting how it’s also just a really horny response and not necessarily a hilarious bit. However some of the meme formats they’ve done with it are clever.


Also she seems to be liking the exposure it has given her and is in on the joke. Who cares

 

Kind of insane that she now has agents while other people in the industry with actual work can't get represented lol. I also forget how this ended up in the Accountability in Music thread.
