You know, we’ve come to expect these people to throw together reactionary statements to try defending themselves once they’ve been exposed. And honestly, while it’s pretty much always some total bullshit, I can at least try to see from their viewpoint why they might *think* defending themselves might look better than just fully owning up to whatever it was they did, at least when they’re still in the heat of things.

Which is (one of many reasons) why that Steve Klein statement sucks to read. It wasn’t written as some rushed out damage control self preservation thing. He had 8 years to think about what he did. Plenty of time to process and reflect, to think about the people he hurt or let down, to hold himself accountable for his own actions. And the best he can do is say “everyone is against me, no one is innocent, and you can’t prove that I did what I did in a court of law so that means I didn’t do it”. Like, fuck that is pathetic.

Anyway, throw that in the box labeled “Break Glass in case of ‘what happened to allowing room for rehabilitation’ argument”

 

I do not believe for a second he couldn’t tell the difference between someone roughly 9 and roughly 18.

Some of the tweets defending him are truly wild. Like this bands tweet is right next to a tweet they made yesterday about celebrating international women's day.

 

I have a very vague understanding of the situation but maybe don’t ever use Omegle for anything.

There’s articles upon articles on how predators use that site. He is no different.

I mentioned this earlier, but he’s a notable name in the Central Coast California pop punk/emo scene (and I think has ties with some bands in NorCal too), and even after everything about Steve came out in 2013/2014, he continued to produce albums/EPs for many bands in that scene. People in all those bands still affiliate with him. It hits really close to home for me because I’m originally from that area and played in a band that was somewhat affiliated in that scene. I know people who know people that have worked with him.

So yeah, bands defending him is disappointing, but not surprising

 

I’m sorry I truly cannot get over the fact that his defense is “my wife found my stash on teen porn that i illegally recorded and turned me in, so really it’s her fault”!!!!! Bro!!!! Truly a laugh to keep from crying situation
