people only seem to care when someone is a liability, he's been too intoxicated to perform for years

He was at a festival I was at two years ago and I watched his set out just to see what it was like due to the stories I had heard and it was top 5 worst sets I have ever seen.

I’m glad people are realizing that this probably only happened because dude no longer is making them insane money and is probably just a headache more than anything lol.

I think the same thing will happen with Jared Leto. There are massive companies like Disney, Warner, and Apple that are still hiring him for projects. They are funding $100+ million projects with his name attached.

I would hope so. More likely than not it would happen if one of his victims came forward and publicly outed him (maybe this has happened and I missed it). Even then I feel like Jared Leto has a lot more clout than Marilyn Manson in the year 2020, so I wouldn't be super surprised if he wasn't immediately dropped.

unfortunately I don't think the Leto stories were mainstream enough for people who weren't online to know , or they just don't care also possible

Nobody with the level of notoriety of someone like Evan Rachel Wood has accused Leto (that I’m aware of). Sure part of this all finally happening now is that he’s not as big of a moneymaker anymore, but another part of it is the visibility of the accuser. Sucks to say but a famous person’s word is worth more to these companies than a non-famous person.

The super blood boiling thing about Leto is that because it’s not with celebrities, it’s written off as “it’s a rock star thing”. I think it’s great ERW is using her platform to bring abuse to light but it fucking sucks when people without that platform are voiceless.

I'm glad she mentioned that someone can be abusive to some partners and not others, that's his bff Johnny's entire defense

For context - what is the origin of the stories that Jude Ellison S. Doyle is quoting from? How long have said stories been publicly available?

I believe it's from Manson's 1998 book "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell." Here is a book review from 1998 that quotes the story: Books: Idiot Messiah (The Boston Phoenix . 03-16-98)

The story originally came from an interview with a fanzine, but Manson reprinted it in his book.

This comment isn't meant to excuse any behavior (that's some messed up shit), but there is some irony in the title of the book in that Trent Reznor turned his life around from self-destructive behavior and drug addiction. It doesn't surprise me that the person who put out Broken (and the associated film) was into some awful stuff.

  23. It's very, very interesting that he felt safe to admit these things and to commit them to writing. Clearly he was right to feel safe doing so, since it's been 20+ years and this is only causing any kind of "problem" for him now. Illustrates quite clearly how much leeway the powerful and privileged are given in this culture to cause indiscriminate harm for the sake of their art.

    Kerrang! July 1st 2000

This old Kerrang interview kind of hints at the debauchery, without Trent and his band confirming it. They just talk about being wasted and Manson overexaggerating things (They do call him "gay," which is obviously bad).

Regardless, Trent should address all of this, especially if he's on the road to be nominated for multiple awards for two movies.
