Could you maybe give like a two sentence sum up since some of us can’t always watch a 5 min video to figure out who that is or what they’re saying (the video literally won’t load for me)

 

a member of doomtree (minneapolis hip hop collective) was accused of abuse. dessa is part of doomtree.

Thank you for specifying, when I saw that post above I assumed it was more about DJ Fundo. Didn’t realize allegations about POS had come out, fuck that’s disappointing

 

That was a tough watch. She is seriously hurting.

 

I did not watch it all, could someone summarize what he did?

The “old man yells at cloud” part of me really wants Twitter to mandate that your username or whatever the fuck it’s called on there because I can never keep track or connect the dots between the names people have on their and who they are or talking to or about (handle?) be your actual name or artist name then name like:

Circus Peanuts - Mark

Gerard Way has worked (very) closely with Scott for years and has yet to say anything about this. Lots of folks on Twitter are calling for him to.

 

Yeah I don't think people are justified in calling for Gerard to say something. I think if he wanted to stand up and support Shawna that would be great, but if he posts so much as a selfie, there's headlines. What if Shawna doesn't want more media attention from circles that normally wouldn't report on comics at all? What if Gerard has also been victimized or manipulated by Allie? There's too much we don't know, and it's totally wack to try and hold someone accountable for working with an abuser he likely didn't hire and has never defended. A lot of the people talking about this on twitter only care because it's Gerard Way. It gets to a point where it's pretty clear that people only care about the celebrity culture aspect of it and not as much about supporting women in comics. Not trying to make excuses for anyone or defend the decision to stay silent, but Gerard has been more active about bringing more women into comics via his DC imprint than the vast, vast majority of other men who work in comics (at least that I follow), so the fact that he's facing backlash for not putting up a statement to placate his fans while those very same fans pay virtually no attention to the actual abuser in this situation leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's always women and allies who are held to a way higher standard of behavior than the people actually creating these environments where abuse thrives and women are silenced.

 

I see your point about the focus shifting onto Gerard because of his status but I think the deeper trouble lies in the fact that he worked so closely with Scott while he likely knew what was going on and someone pointed out that Scott had a credit hidden on TUA.

 

There are a comics people I’m very mad at w/ Scott Allie. Mike Mignola specifically comes to mind, as someone who was still as recently as the past year collaborating w/ Scott, after he had to step down from his Editor-in-Chief position at Dark Horse... due to sexual misconduct.

But, when did Gerard Way last work closely w/ Scott? Between MCR, solo music, & that Young Animal imprint he had at DC, was he really in the mix w/ Scott in recent years in a significant capacity?

 

Fuck, that's massively dissapointing, but I'm probably gonna have to cut their music out of my life, cause that is NOT okay.
