Fronz has always been an awful fucking person

That Fronz has a following at all still after all these years really does floor me. It'd be one thing if it were just "shitty popular musician has a loyal fanbase," but no, the dude has been a walking punchline for years, nevermind all the homophobic slurs while he pretended to be a good "ally" to queer folks a few years back.

Also as good as it is to see abusers get kicked out, I kind of wish more bands would take the Lorna Shore approach. No long-winded apology or explanatory social media letter, no wishy-washy distancing from the issue, none of that. Just. "Effective immediately, ____ is no longer a member of our band."

I realize statements are sometimes necessary but bands so often do them so badly that it makes me wish they hadn't.

I kind of feel like they would be accused of trying to hide it then.

Lady A is a bad name for the band anyway. It seems less like a name change than an official abbreviation. The A still stands for what it was before

That's definitely the other issue. It is an absolute nothing move.

Out of curiosity, did those bands reassign the letters that make up acronym or something? Otherwise, I don’t really see how it’s different. (Though I think TTNG’s old name is in a different realm than the other two)

Looking at AJJ’s Wikipedia page it is the same order they just say they were “bored“ of the president they were named after and uncomfortable with use of the word jihad because they’re not Muslim / didn’t want to be disrespectful

I think shortening the name isn’t really changing much to be honest. People still will call you by your old name.

People will call them by their old name even if they change it entirely. Just what they're used to. Point is new fans won't be calling them by the old one. Plus for what it's worth, completely anecdotally, AJJ/TTNG seems to have been a successful change. Haven't heard their old names in a while.

The change in these still retains the connection to the original, offensive name though. IMO, it speaks more to wanting to be able to retain a certain "brand identity" than actually distancing yourself from what has been acknowledged as wrong. I'm not saying anyone should disavow these artists or that you can't think it's enough, that's not my place to say, but from m perspective it is below the bare minimum. I don't really have any stock in this, I don't listen to any of the artists under discussion, I'm just pushing back on the notion that these bands did it the right way when I cannot see that division at all.

Viet Cong -> Preoccupation was the best name change I’ve seen. Also a massive improvement.

They really didn’t do anything because people have been calling them Lady A for years.

I saw Cameron and Cory cut ties with the other members of the band on Friday and this is almost certainly related to that. Unusual move for them to break up the band now that abuse from the other members has been brought to light but I respect them for it. Shame it had to end this way but I understand their reasoning.

Holy fucking shit, this is wild.

Considering it's an anonymous account, nothing will probably come of it. I don't even know how this should be handled, but hopefully this inspires more people to share their experiences, and I hope the band takes swift action.
