  1. Billboard
In the six days since XXXTentacion’s “SAD!” was removed from Spotify’s playlists including RapCaviar, where it held prominent placement, the track’s streams dropped 17 percent per day in the United States on average. That continued rate of decline, Billboard estimates, could cost the rapper as much as $60,000 in revenue in a year from — roughly equivalent to the United States’ median household income — from one song on one service in the U.S. alone.

R Kelly’s streams went up, but he isn’t really that relevant right now and the publicity helped

AH - I guess it was R Kelly I read about.

That's a ton of money for one song. Damn.

Bad publicity is unfortunately good publicity at times.

If that's the reason that Kendrick was upset, I can understand his perspective. I think there is some merit to the criticism that Spotify's initial rollout seemed to target only certan genres. I hope they go back to the drawing board and figure out a better way to roll out such policies in a more complete way instead of just cherrypicking.

  6. Gotta start somewhere, picking two of the biggest pos artists making hundreds of thousands of dollars in playlists and in the news right now seems like one place to start.

  7. These dudes are gonna make more money in the next two weeks than a lot of people see all year. That’s bad.

    I do not disagree.

The question of why they were only targeting black art is valid. Spotifys response should've been to roll out playlist removals for white people accused of horrible shit too.

I don't think we can say kendrick was upset. TDE's label head is notoriously outspoken and it sounds like he took it upon himself to contact Spotify because its what he believed

Weirdly, R Kelly doesn't come up with the "playlists featuring" thing for me, and neither does Brand New, but it looks like XXXTentacion does...

The William Control stuff is all absolutely horrifying. It happened to one of my closest friends and is being investigated professionally by news and police.
