Fun fact re: glasses and technology. I have a core memory of being told in a class that people who wear glasses are technically androids if you go by theories/philosophies dealing with android identity.

Yo the energy usage of AI is enough for me to be revolted by it's incorporation into anything aside from solid medical diagnosis, which is the singular plus I have learned about. But artists cannibalizing each other is a very fair discussion.

Even for medical AI, I’ve seen AI get extremely basic facts wrong so I don’t think I’d trust it to do anything medical yet

make sure you tell all your medical providers you don’t consent to them using any ai or ai-developed products when you go in for care lmao

I understand that it is a technology that could be used for good, but the possible negatives FAR outwiegh the positives and until there are big sweeping regulations put on the use of AI (there wont be), I take a hard stance that all AI is bad AI. Any other stance is short sighted and irresponsible.

  10. Honest question, how does this impact your work life? Without the Microsoft Suite, or Google, I don’t think I, or the vast majority of people I know with “corporate” jobs, could do their day to day job. And LLMs are either already heavily baked in, or will be within the near future. I feel like everyone can use whatever tools they want, there’s ethical implications with all sorts of things we do, but I am curious how this stance squares with where technology is going. All phones, computers, browsers, etc., will have this baked in for various features before the end of the year. Do you opt out of using it all? Probably healthier. I’d love to never open Chrome or Teams again. :crylaugh:

1000%. I's very obvious what these companies are wanting to do with it and it's only a matter of time until it gets exponentially worse.

All the LLMs in the world can't make Teams bearable.

  13. The amount of hate I have for that application can’t be put into words. Last week it kept trying to put “copilot” on my tab bar, would not “mark as read” two chats I had read, and the “highlight” on the window for which chat I was in and typing was flat out wrong … almost leading to some very bad missteps. I hate it with the passion of a thousand suns. :crylaugh:

I hate OneDrive and Sharepoint more, but Teams is a close third.

For now, I've been able to avoid them without any issues but I know as time goes on it's going to become harder. I'll continue to opt out where I can but eventually I expect it to be an ideals vs reality thing where I may need to use it to keep my job.

However, I don't think having to use it to stay alive takes any legitimacy away from my opposition of it. It's a necessity rather than an endorsement.

  16. So you just don’t use Google or MS services? Kinda definitely jealous. I will say from my experience it’s become a “must know” for interviews now. Prompting and being able to use an LLM has become Excel-like table stakes for some places. The new Pivot Table question, if you will. Thanks for answering I’m just always curious how people that oppose it will do that as it continues to be put in .. everything .. (even stuff it has no need to be in) … a podcast I was listening to today described it like a browser or the internet, it went from nowhere to everywhere and a staple of everyday life in what felt like an instant. I could see that here.

I use all of those things in my job and while I haven't had any problems myself, I'll never say no to dragging Microsoft's ass.

Microsoft teams is the worst and I also hate that the entire Microsoft suite of things keeps trying to push copilot on me.

as a journalist, I feel weird putting my work into things like chatGPT or whatever other things there are right now. I don’t think musicians who use ai should be raked through the coals, unless they’re using it to generate lyrics/music in a way that rips off other folks.

there’s a good way to apply ai in things (otter has been such a lifesaver!) and I’m interested in how it can help script vertical videos for folks who aren’t used to doing social videos. There’s also a part of me that worries ai will eventually put the journalism industry deeper into the grave by just…generating things.

Medical uses of ai? I see potential.

Using ai to try and use it as spark notes or write papers, etc.? It’s not good at all, especially given the “your brain on chatGPT” the mit media lab put out (Overview ‹ Your Brain on ChatGPT — MIT Media Lab)

Diddy jury still in deliberations. The judge received a note from the jury foreperson that one of the jurors " is not able to follow the court's instructions "

It must be getting intense in that jury room

Day 1 of Diddy jury deliberations end without a verdict. Verdict is likely tomorrow.
