My mom got two pastors from my church growing up fired for being inappropriate with me. The church and abuse have always gone hand in hand, no matter how seemingly mild.

TW First guy was the music pastor who kept going up behind me and massaging my shoulders. The other guy was a youth pastor intern who sent me AIM messages regarding his privates. At the time I didn’t think much of those instances, mostly because I was like 12 and found the massages annoying and the AIM messages funny, but shout out to my mom (RIP miss you) for seeing creepy shit and immediately acting on it. That is sooooo incredibly mild compared to what others have gone through and were subjected to for years. This shit, especially in the church where you are supposed to have an implicit sense of trust, needs to be called out.

RE: the NTB stuff, that's rough. I saw them on probably their first major your (opening for Jars of Clay), talked to the band about my Johnny Cash shirt, and got their first album autographed. I've seen them 3 or 4 times since and have talked to the band members a few times.
Tough to think about those good memories being built on music that was created in an abusive situation.

 

yeah, no surprises that the CCM industry is full of losers and creeps. my wife dated a guy in a christian rock/reggae band for awhile back in the day and he was one of the worst people she ever knew and definitely didn’t walk the walk

 

It’s a crazy life hack that you can be absolutely terrible and just say “Jesus” and they have to accept you and enable you.

"Hurt by things in our early teen years as well", and does not elaborate or address the claim of abuse beyond "misleading". Yadda yadda, God's love and mercy, need my prayer warriors, blah blah blah. Christians love to parrot the same bullshit and it's accepted because it's "sin", and well, we are ALL sinners! I am not without empathy, whatever happened is clearly horrific.
