I almost got a Deja astronaut tattoo. Thankfully, I have never pulled the trigger on any tattoo at all. I’ve had a few ideas that have stuck around, but I just can’t decide where I’d want them and therefore just keep not getting them.

 

Kind of piggy-backing on this, as I have been wrestling with the appropriate way to discuss it - but as much as I think a lot of the people here would be curious to see these messages to help complete the picture of all the transgressions that occurred, I hope you only share what you feel comfortable. You don’t owe anyone here anything, and if in revisiting these memories you feel it best to keep certain things private, I hope you do what is best for yourself.

 

mine was filled with my attempts at lyrics to my own emo songs…i remember this was one specifically …how’s this for an opener “I was a fool/I was your tool” lol

I remember when the news came out about BN (and anytime JK Rowling says something shitty that gets a lot of attention), tattoo artists I follow on instagram were offering free or heavily discounted cover ups.

 

I don’t have any tattoos, but have always thought about getting some band tattoos. However, this conversation is reminding me of why that would be a bad idea and how I should go with my other idea which is just getting an arm sleeve of hot dogs doing random cool shit like skating or at the beach or, like, a hot dog eating a fuckin hot dog

 

I will contribute $10 toward your tattoo of a hot dog eating a hot dog.

Alright, my bad. I’m not very social, so I’m not in the loop. Interesting though.

 

I still have access to my live journal because I use it for ontd but thankfully I don't think it's my og account. I simped so hard for Panic at the Disco on my OG account. It would be mortifying. But nothing tops the amount of embarrassment I caused for myself on Myspace. It's probably like

1) Myspace
2) livejournal
3) quizilla (is that what it was called??)
4) neopets
5) photobucket

On the embarrassment scale.

Also def makes sense BN is the main topic given the recent tour and that one of the victims/survivors is literally posting in this thread actively.

 

I hope I don't sound too naive, but I do feel like there is a possibility of this being a cultural turning point with accountability, considering there is 1) more evidence coming forward that provides more context and 2) still time for other survivors to come forward in this window before the tour begins.

 

#1 embarrassment for me is probably from the GaiaOnline days

 

my ex-wife got the Deathly Hallows symbol then years later added 'No TERFs allowed'

 

When I finally got my first tattoo in 2021, I wanted it to be NJ music related, but ultimately went against including lyrics by a local artist in case Gaslight, MCR, or whoever else I chose ended up doing something egregious down the line. Just went with a record player and the state's silhouette on the vinyl.

New Jersey already gets shit on throughout popular culture. Figured things couldn't get much worse there.

 

My brain had blocked all of that out. Oh my god.

 

The AOL message boards are seemingly lost to time, so I think I’m safe from that embarrassment, lol. There was one summer I spent way too much time in the rock and emo music forums.

To those who haven't done so, I just wrote 1-star Google reviews for each of the venues I've attended that are hosting Brand New this summer. It's not the easiest thing in the world for businesses to get reviews removed, as long as you abide by Google's standards, so you may want to do the same to get their attention. It's small, but something to keep them on their toes and remind them that the conversation they've tried to stifle from the beginning is still going on.

 

what about actual AOL/AIM convos and away messages …I’d love to review those haha

 

perhaps the world at large is better off, but I think the Chorus.fm forums would thrive

I feel guilty not commenting directly these last few weeks and don’t have anything new to add, but:

I just want to echo what @wheneyeawoke said. Please don’t feel obligated or feel pressured to share anything unless you feel comfortable with it. I’m sure you’ve thought this and are in total control of what you want to share, and with that I just want to say sorry and thank you at the same time @aiyana91

I’m sorry these horrible things happened to you. I had a visceral reaction seeing the photos you shared as it reminded me of a non-related but similar situation in my life and HOW YOUNG you truly were. These power dynamics and the gross & disturbing things artists, teachers, managers, etc. can do to young teens has a ridiculous lasting impact. This dynamic impacted somebody very close in my life, and I was the first person they confided with. And I’ve seen first hand what it does to a person a decade later.

And that’s why I want to say thank you for doing this. You’re using your pain, grief, and story at a significant time with all attention to really fucking do something brave, important, and necessary. You’re giving hope to other victims to also feel vindicated, and I’m just another person here who will support you the whole way.
