Not my tea to spill and it would likely be fairly easy to identify the people involved unless the same things happened to a lot of people so I’m good lol
You know the bit when Ellen scares guests by having people hide in the furniture? That’s not actually a bit, it’s just them escaping from their solitary confinement
As far as I can tell, nothing on the level of a lot of people. Just a whole bunch of “Ellen is actually a massive asshole” comments
Idk man. She could be awful. But ever since the Mira sorvino thing I'm so hesitant to judge women with reputations for being mean or difficult without proper receipts.
Every once in a while when I watch Ellen interviews I swear I see the facade drop ever so slightly sometimes. Like her whole face will just drop and she looks insanely angry for like a split second. I probably sound crazy but I've been noticing it for years lol. I think it's when her guest gets more laughs than her. I've always thought she came across as really condescending to some of her guests too (as recently as Cardi B literally a few days ago)
I will say this is unfortunately very often the case. I’ve been “warned” about so many women only for them to be totally pleasant and professional. Working on Interstellar we were told for days that Hathaway was going to be a terror, yet she was always nice as can be. Happens all the time. I don’t believe this is that, though. But yeah, no receipts, just years of detailed first and second hand stories that stay consistent from person to person, so idk.
I'm not a big fan of Ellen because I think her segments with guests can get mean-spirited and she lets sucky celebs like beiber go on apology tours on her show, but idk I think letterman was also v mean spirited with his guests and he gets praised for his style. It would not surprise me if Ellen was unpleasant but it sucks that female unpleasantness is treated so differently than male unpleasantness, espesh when male unpleasantness is often more dire like rape or gatekeeping. Not that Ellen shouldn't be criticized - just wish that men were held to task in the same way
If were going to start listing off "mean bosses", while that's awesome because everyone hates "dick bosses", then I think were really clogging the whole idea of this thread and the movement no? Are we trying to call out anyone who isn't nice too?
I think there's a pretty clear and important difference between a "mean boss" and an abusive or hostile work environment. Not saying Ellen definitively falls into either category because I don't know anything firsthand myself, but I'd say situations like that are worth being discussed here.
I don't know what you want from me, I don't have the time to lay out the exact legal definition of hostile work environment with examples to help illustrate the difference, there's lots of ways to educate oneself about what a hostile or abusive work environment is.
People who “aren’t nice” with extreme wealth in positions of power over others will often lead to situations of abuse/harassment and those behaviours may already be prevalent, I fail to see how it’s irrelevant even if it isn’t true 100% of the time
i have absolutely no idea what qualifies as "hostile work environment" vs "dick boss". To me they sound like one in the same. A "dick boss" who yells at you, makes you feel like shit, and threatens to fire you... im sure leads to a hostile work environment.
but what are these people saying? "get me my god damn coffee or ill fire you?" or "what?" I dont get it.
"Hostile work environment" is a legal term, it's something you can actually sue someone for. Not every negative behavior a boss engages in rises to that legal definition. If you want to learn more I suggest you read up on it.
This is getting insufferable quickly. Nothing can really be said about Ellen specifically since no one knows the details, but people in positions of power abusing those who work for them is absolutely relevant to the thread.
Yeah, and the fact that it appears to be an ongoing, well known thing within the industry is worth bringing up. She's problematic based off of multiple accounts as far as I can tell. I don't see the problem with sharing that in here.
so Ellen is a piece of shit. Got it. I'll update my list. I dont know guys. I feel like you're all so willing to just jump on everything you hear no matter the specifics. "We dont even really know the specifics of Ellen, but lets just go ahead and call her a piece of shit monster anyway". I'm not a fan of that. Especially since you guys aren't really helping to clarify what's "problematic" and what's "a shit boss". Every boss I've worked for has threatened to fire me if I don't do what he asks. I've been yelled at, work schedule been cut, it sucks. And like hey, if we're just trying to hold everyone who's an asshole accountable for being an asshole.... i mean, i guess sure go ahead. It just doesn't seem like it's on the same level of the big time mosnters/assholes we're trying to eliminate in the world.
