we should actually care about this part a lot more than a celebrity's political affiliation imo. The liberal ones also don't give a shit about you as long as their wealth stays protected
But even the ones who do give a shit are still criticized no matter what they do! Like Billie and Chappell, and they aren't even like super rich. There's hating rich ppl, then there's being a misogynist.
Eh...I have no reason to say either of them are bad people, but I don't have any reason to believe they care about me or lower classes individuals as a whole really. I feel pretty comfortable criticizing rich people as a whole and knowing I'm not a part of whatever parasocial or performative culture bullshit is going on at any given time.
Yep.. not to get too off base from the purpose of the thread, but celebs and people with that much worth will never not get a side-eye from me. I’m not at all saying they’re bad people, but motivations completely change at that point regardless of intent.
There have been some celebrities that put themselves on the line even when it might be hard, like Susan Sarandon comes to mind. Mark Ruffalo really seems to get out there on the ground, and importantly, tries to uplift the activists that are actually in the trenches. Unlike someone like Leo who puts himself at the center of the climate movement then rides on his yacht and goes away when it gets hard. But in general I totally agree that it’s fine to generalize the rich because they are overwhelmingly opposed to actually upending the status quo and will ultimately get in the way, and the exceptions are earned.
What did Billie get backlash for anyway? She’s spoke out for Palestine and it seems like she’s used her platform well. I’m sure I don’t know everything though. If you’re just talking about Zionists and anti-trans backlash I don’t think it’s fair at all to lump that in with criticizing selfish rich people or really anything this thread does.
She said at the Grammys that no one is illegal on stolen land, so the right weaponized a group of Native Americans to say she needs to give up the land her mansion is built on back to them.
I know it's par for the course with MAGA, but what a completely braindead interpretation of what she was saying
It’s along the same lines of “well if you like socialism why don’t you give all your money away” and isn’t taken seriously by anyone without brain worms
They genuinely think socialism means everyone is wearing a barrel for clothes and selling apples on the streets and then they think you are stupid for wanting to be what they think socialism is.
i don't necessarily think criticizing a woman's political leanings or affiliations = being misogynist. chappell has a huge platform and is extremely outspoken about equality and being an ally but has also just said some absolutely dumbass tone deaf stuff in interviews when asked about her politics that i think at the time deserved a little criticism. i don't think shes a bad person by any stretch, but she is by no means free from criticism.
I know it happens and don't think it's worth arguing over, I can only speak to my own criticisms of rich people regardless of gender lol
I didn't know what this meant and I'm so glad I looked it up because holy shit, I had no idea he was insane.
I worked with him on a movie once and I don't feel comfortable writing about the experience in a public forum
That dude is like an, “actor that didn’t actually happen.” To think how big he was 20 years ago, and now he’s like, gone. Hadn’t thought of him in quite a minute.
It’s wild how popular “Empire” was for a couple of seasons, then the Jussie Smollett stuff happened and the show just fizzled out. Really thought that would be a big comeback for him. But it sounds like he’s just a bad guy!
As long as we're on the subject of vagueposting and celebrities, fuck Jeff Goldblum. yes there's a real reason and no I will not be saying more (other than yes it is in the realm of sex-pestery)
