Also, the privileged upbringing part is absurd. There are certainly some players who were born wealthy because their father played, but most athletes come from very humble origins. It is not a career path that many wealthy people are going to encourage for their children, with a very low chance of success and a very high chance of serious injury. Putting your body on the line for the enjoyment of wealthier people has been the standard for thousands of years.
Baseball is actually usually the most conservative someone did a study on this relatively recently (maybe last five years?) and of the players that responded it was something like over 70% were registered republicans or had conservative values but couldn’t register as voters
so hockey isn’t a privileged sport? Everyone around here had a problem with Team USA all being MAGA lapdogs but it was apparent with the history of that sport.
i am aware of the humble start or some athletes…just how you then see many of them hanging MAGA hats in their locker. Just because they were poor once doesn’t makes someone identify with that once they achieve wealth.

It is important to remember that Trump fanatics are very loud about it, so they may seem to be a bigger number than they actually are. Jesse Ventura was a Governor and he hates Trump. Schwarzenegger was a Republican as Governor, but he is definitely more moderate than the modern party.
it’s a wild generalization, but it just seems to be the case lately. I truly cannot think of a professional athlete in the 4 major sports that has openly spoke out against Trump. However, I can think of probably 45-50 that have either alluded to be being Trump supporters.
The goalposts keep moving here, first you said they’re all maga now you want them openly speaking out against Trump. We just saw literally all the nba all stars swooning over Obama. They aren’t maga. I don’t think just not being maga is a very strong goal post anyway, which we’ve seen with the genocide in Gaza and there your generalizations would unfortunately be accurate, but it’s just not true that most athletes are maga.

There is definitely a correlation. Sports that are more expensive to enter are going to draw wealthier, and thus more conservative, families. It is like any other career field, really. You aren't going to find a lot of far-right social workers and not a whole lot of communists own gun stores.
