I think the only semi valid criticism towards her I gathered at the time was that she wasn't promoting the movie in a way that addressed its heavy subject material. idk anything about her drama outside of that. I vaguely remember Swifties saying she and Ryan were bad ppl.
yeah, definitely. i forgot to mention it. or rather, i forgot to consider how that may have factored into my own perception of the situation.
The thing I remember most about that trial was how literally every meme page on IG just inundated my feed with weird stuff about her for months. Gross and weird
I don't consider myself triggered by much but that case and the discourse around it was so triggering and upsetting and nowhere felt safe. Everyone was discussing it and defending Depp. I remember going to a co-worker's desk for a work-related thing and they were watching the trial on their work computer like wtf. Makeup brands I used were posting about it. Literally couldn't not be around it. And usually I can argue and debate topics irl but that one was so upsetting to me I'd just shut down and couldn't speak on it. And what's frustrating is that some of the women I know irl that posted pro-Depp memes and jokes back then are now pretending like they always stood by Heard. I'm not taking like they realized afterwards they were wrong and changed course. They act like they never held that viewpoint at all when I know they did. But I feel too frustrated and upset to even bring it up If that's how I feel as someone who has never met anyone involved I can't even begin to fathom how Heard feels and I don't blame her for doing whatever she needs to protect herself and her family
I'll always hate Jason Mamoa for dressing up as Depp on set to upset Heard and potentially get her fired. What a piece of shit.
The victim blaming and media shaming in Depp’s strategy wasn’t all that much different than Kobe Bryant’s team’s strategy against his victim, which became the playbook of the time. But yeah the aggressive suit and trial and the internet meme and misinformation about what the evidence even was at the trial was another level. I think we’re still seeing how just making up things can become the narrative even when everything was on camera. Media and consumption have gotten so lazy and divided along culture war crap
While I’m not trying to grant Benny any sort of latitude we don’t know if there were legal reasons for him waiting I’m not sure it’s based on hyping his movie that came out like six months ago and got no real award traction
they had a company to disband and active projects to detach from, i sadly think the hollywood route was definitely to not be specific for the time being. as for the timing of awards season, yeah, i mean, it also sadly makes plenty of optical sense to wait until the nominees are announced to drop the story
I’m not trying to come off aggro here, but am I to understand that Benny was in the same room and didn’t attempt to stop this? Like… I don’t care who “took point” on the film. The way I see it, Benny seems to own a pretty big piece of this, too.
Obviously a giant grain of salt here, but i watched something that alluded to Benny not knowing the age of the girl until much later when it was brought to light amidst a breakup between a close Safdie associate and their partner Emily Ratajkowski. I think maybe Josh told this associate guy but benny didn't find out until after the breakup. It doesn't explain much and its all very bad look regardless, but yeah, seems to be a theory that maybe benny didn't know @ the same time
Ratner left a trail of detritus — discarded orange peels, gum wrappers — wherever he went on set. “He did actually chew a piece of gum and throw it in a coffee cup on my cart,” one said, [but] “didn’t acknowledge my existence for even one nanosecond.” Another recalled a long day during which the crew wasn’t allowed to break for meals, and no outside food was allowed to be brought into the space where filming was taking place. Everyone was starving. “Brett, unknowingly or maliciously, got his own food, went up there, was just eating it and just licking his fingers in grubbiest way possible, either being a dick or [having] no awareness whatsoever to the fact that everybody else is working and no one’s eating,” one person recalled.
They could have gotten any young unknown director to make the documentary. A lot of them would have swallowed their pride because it is an easy puff piece and it is more money than what they had before. Instead, they go out of their way to pick someone so nauseating. They enjoy trying to stick it in peoples' eye.
Can’t believe the Melania thing is getting such a wide theatrical release and pushing all the 28YL: Bone Temple showings away.
They are so desperate to make her a modern Jackie Kennedy but she is about as reviled as any First Lady ever.
The Safdie stuff is disgusting…but so are all of the oscar politics behind it. No one cares about the victim, this only came back to the surface now because of awards season
yeah, their former producer groomed the girl in question, they stopped working with him and Emily Rtajknowski divorced him, but they never made it up to the girl to the best of my knowledge Emily Ratajkowski Divorce: Husband Accused of Sexual Misconduct
