Agreed. Idk why this could be happening other than to normalize an extreme issue

Claiming that these unremarkable ads are planting the seeds for some vaguely-defined “genocide” in which corporations take all our rights is Q Anon levels of crazy

Can someone lock this thread and start a new one? Maybe forget this ever happened?

I think looking up a celebrity’s voter registration (who’s not openly political) is weird behavior.

Like, most of us here love Adam Sandler and he’s definitely shown Republican leanings. But he’s never political, so who cares? It just seems like the person doing it is just looking to get mad about something.

I wouldn’t judge how others feel or tell anyone else how to feel but I’ve criticized my own family for doing the I’m not political but I vote for trump and republicans. Sorry but supporting the party privately is still political. At some point as we descend further into fascism because of conservative enabling I think it’s totally fair to say just being a Republican sucks. I also recognize and know people who vote Republican that are likeable and seem like great people so I get that it’s also fair to not judge people based solely on their party affiliation. There’s a lot of people in Florida being harmed in a concentration camp right now because republicans are in power though so I just think it’s fair to hold the conflicting views.
Anyway I apologize for the tangent, party affiliation is surely not the point of this thread. Just saw it on my news feed and thought it was relevant to the discussions that were going on in here. This convo belongs in the politics thread if anywhere

She’s a shit actress and she’s republican, let’s move on.

Most wealthy celebrities are republicans, it’s weird when we act surprised.

As a queer person who loves sports I’ve had to completely unfollow all athletes bc I know majority align their politics with their paychecks and I don’t want that shit in my face.

Sandler performed at their convention and donated money. He never tried to hide it.

The thing that is hard about this is that we are talking about voting for Trump or being a Republican like it is some small club like The Proud Boys. The unfortunate reality is that Trump got the most votes in 2024 and almost cracked 50 percent. Trying to shame an actor who happens to support the most popular political party in the country just makes us look out-of-touch.

I apologize. My reaction was a little knee-jerky. I think i bristle at this idea of this being a regular practice. But I also understand that Sydney Sweeney is in a unique position where she’s used a show as a jumping off point for her career that stars one of the biggest trans actresses in the world and touches on trans issues, while she seemingly supports politicians trying to wipe out that community. That really sucks. I don’t know. I’m not trying to defend her, just something about looking up political parties that is not something I normally would encourage, since, as said, probably a ton of celebrities are quietly Republican. But that knowledge is out there and it can’t go back in. It sucks that she’s a part of that party.

Yeah man. Registering as a Republican in fucking June 2024 is telling.

That woman loves her some Trump/MAGA.

Before all this happened.. Sidney Sweeney has got the Christy Martin biopic having it's world premiere at TIFF and it was supposed to be her first foray into potentially an awards contender but I think all this shit has definitely affected her chances big time.

"socially liberal" as in they don't mind if you're gay, but they'll be damned if their taxes go to actual social programs.

  17. she's not gonna get "canceled," nor should she. my initial point was that public outrage, or rather who it targets, feels gendered, that's all. if anything, maybe this will lead to people boycotting AE, but hey, i know i've stepped into a Target or Starbucks after those were deemed inappropriate. idk what accountability would look like in this situation, if it's even necessary.

  18. I don't wanna keep talking about this specifically, so just in general, whenever something like this happens, as one person on tiktok pointed out, at every stage of the approval process for it there was not a single person present who stood up on business and said no, which kinda says a lot about the kinds of people who are(n't) in those positions of power. But again, maybe it's silly to expect corporations to strive for more diversity in their hiring practices. idk what accountability would look like or if it's even necessary, but these are the kinds of thought processes ppl are bringing up, and I think they're worth considering instead of brushing it off as a non-issue just bc it doesn't affect you directly

I work in media and I feel extremely online and aware compared to every single person I've ever met in a corporate setting. That's not an excuse, it's a nightmare. At best, the corporate machine is full of majority white normies with little awareness.
