I remember seeing a video on Facebook of my former brother in law doing a meme making fun of Amber Heard saying on the stand how she stepped on a bee, which then led to a compilation of a ton of people doing it. That's when I knew the algorithm was not pumping Johnny Depp/anti-Amber content on to my feed. It was like getting a look into a different world I had never seen.

There were some really good threads posted in here about the actual evidence presented at the Depp trial compared to what the Depp PR team and internet trolls made the mainstream take aways. Everyone was so misinformed about that trial and the judge letting the circus occur all around the court room no doubt tainted the jury. Just a complete failure of the system all around and another example of the court system being skewed toward punishing abused women instead of protecting them

The way the media tried to tear down famous people in the late 90's/early 2000's seems so foreign to today's culture.

Looks like they have settled out of court. This is what her lawyer said per Variety.

Shia LaBeouf, FKA Twigs Reach Settlement in Sexual Battery Lawsuit

“Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court,” the musician’s lawyer Bryan Freedman and the actor’s lawyer Shawn Holley said in a statement issued on behalf of their clients. “While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”

  8. I somehow didn't know she released music recently, I'm glad she's still active after all that

she put out one of her best albums…then went ahead and tanked the rollout by cancelling her US shows for like the 3rd time in 4 tours…so unreliable.

The shows weren’t cancelled, just postponed (okay sure…minus Coachella). I saw her live last month. She said it was because of visa issues. I think we can extend some grace to musicians touring the states in today’s political climate as well as to someone who has also been dealing with the lawsuit against Shia.

sure the sydney sweeney american eagle ad is bad. definitely worse than the controversial sabrina carpenter manchild cover which tbh i didnt even have an issue with. but i feel like there's other things to be outraged about. we're gonna cancel her but not johnny depp, brad pitt, jared leto? cancel culture or whateverthefuck doesn't work if some things spread and some things don't, if some people face consequences and some people don't.

I don't disagree but that's not gonna make me hate the ad any less. Sydney has always been a piece of shit, so has Jared Leto. And people absolutely call for all the people you named to be cancelled but I think the reality is that no one is ever truly "cancelled". There will always be people who support them no matter what. But standing your ground against it is what's important. I think the AE ad is disgusting, I think Sydney shouldn't have a platform but she doesso I'm just going to voice my opinions against her and AE and move on.

Also, I don't really think the Sabrina thing (which is a dumb cover) even comes close to what Depp or Sydney or Leto are doing so I don't really see what it's even in here tbh.

Yeah I don’t usually care for whataboutism because why not both and the ad sucks but idk I don’t see it as a personal accountability issue as much as just a cultural issue. Basically anything can get blown out of proportion by the culture wars anymore. And giving this much interpretation and limelight to a clothing company commercial right now seems so dumb to me. I’ve never cared for what I’ve seen from Sidney Sweeney but it’s just typical rich celebrity stuff and this tracks with that, nothing more imo

  23. Just watched the ad for the first time and I really gotta say, people spinning a popular phrase about someone having "good genes" because they are conventionally attractive into something about eugenics is like, peak internet brain

Yeah, that's not really a new thing to say about an attractive person. But I'm not a POC so I guess I don't really have a right to an opinion on that? Idk
