I can confirm that he wasn’t watching those shows at the time because even Nick was news that day.

I remember they told us in middle school but they didn't tell the kids at elementary school because my brother had no idea.

I was in second grade when it happened, our school informed us. Obviously was not old enough to fully grasp what happened when the announcement came.

I still remember the exact moment. I was in 4th grade, getting a sip of water from the fountain in the hallway and the kid behind me (his name was Cade) told me planes flew into a building and they have it on the tv in the classroom. Also that I needed to hurry up so he could get water.

Then my entire 4th grade class watched it on tv

I always forget that you’re an old man. Makes it even funnier that you have a mother who gives a shit about Marvel and the like.

Junior in HS. They told us over the speaker and tried to go about the day as normal until letting us all leave early around noon.

  10. I was a sophomore in high school. I was in my Multimedia class. My teacher put on the news after the first plane hit and had us all watch. He kept telling us "you will always remember this moment." We saw the second plane hit the tower live. Later on in the day, we found out that one of my classmates' aunt was on one of the planes, so that was very sad.

Junior in high school when it happened. I remember all the teachers pulling out those old school cube TVs on carts and hundreds of students gathering around to see what was happening.

I remember later that day, after school, driving to work and the roads were just dead. Nobody was out. I was working at a grocery store at the time and we closed super early because nobody was shopping.

I was in 3rd grade. Teachers were pretty hush hush about it, but I think we finally heard about it briefly. My teacher looked upset. Let out of school early. I just remember going up to my parents bedroom and it being on the news in there and seeing the smoking towers. Didn't really hit me how big of a deal it was at that age

same here. it was my first or second week, and i think our teacher was walking us back from music class back to homeroom when i saw my Kindergarten teacher from the year prior in the library with a bunch of other teachers, intently and anxiously staring at the TV. i wanted to go in and say hi while my teacher told me i couldn't because there was something serious going on. didn't see any footage until a couple days later, and my mom told me years later she and a bunch of other moms who had students at the school were contemplating pulling them out because they thought it might be the end of the world (it was a private Christian school, for what it's worth).

i do remember being in high school when Sandy Hook happened though, and we stopped everything we were doing to put on the news and watch. think we were let out for the rest of the day shortly after.

I was in my sixth grade social studies class when I heard what happened, after the second tower had been hit. First time in my life I remember the word ‘terrorist’ being used

We didn’t watch any tv coverage and the school day pretty much carried on as normal, except PE classes and rec periods took place indoors like the administration was worried something would happen in our middle-of-nowhere town

I was a sophomore in high school. I was in my Biology class and the teacher had sent a student down to the office to request something and when he came back he had this weird look on his face. She asked if everything was okay and he was like, “….I don’t know. I think you should turn on the TV. Something’s happening in New York.”

So she turned it on and the first tower was on fire. The newscasters were speculating about what had happened, whether it was an accident, what the actual size of the plane was, etc. and then - I’ll never forget it - that second little plane on the screen appeared in the corner of the screen headed right towards the buildings and at the time I thought literally nothing of it. Just figured it was some low flying plane because what else would it be, right? Then when the sudden explosion happened, the whole class jumped and my teacher yelled out “oh my god!” and then there was just this weird confusion of, like, are we watching a replay of the first building getting hit? But the other one’s still on fire already? What am I watching? The newscasters were doing the same thing for a moment until they realized what had just happened. That’s when the newscaster said “there’s no doubt now. This is an intentional attack,” and that was an existential out of body experience for sure. I remember class ending not long after that and you could tell who in the hallway knew what was going on versus who didn’t yet. In my next class I had History and the teacher kept the TV on and told us this was all we were going to be doing today because we were literally watching history happen. I watched both towers fall in that class and I’ve never heard a room full of teenagers so dead silent. When they showed the Pentagon on fire as well that was a real “are we all going to die” moment of terror. I remember a kid asking the teacher what was going to happen now and he hung his head, sighed, and said “Well, you’ve read about it in your history books and some day someone else will read about this in theirs. And it will always lead to the same, sad conclusion. We’re going to war.”

John // OC now, OH forever.

Watched it live on TV in the lobby of the auto shop I was working at. We heard the first one on the radio and our TV was set to local news, so they went to a live broadcast. A bunch of us were standing in the lobby surrounding the TV in disbelief.

We were just outside of Cleveland and there was talk about flights being rerouted there, so we had the occasional fighter jet fly overhead. What a surreal day.

I was in 4th grade in Alaska and my mom came running into my room at like 4/5 AM telling me to wake up because the US was being bombed. Woke me up real quick considering I lived on a military base!

Columbine felt more real and relevant to my life when it happened. New York seemed so far away in Florida, but I was getting ready to go into middle school and I was afraid of some older kids I would see around the neighborhood and the park. I was right, though, as it unfortunately still is a daily concern.

I was in a bar when they announced his death. The bartender gave everyone shots which really felt weird.
