Not surprised. I hope this documentary doesn’t start a downhill spiral. We need accountability to be held and for people to feel comfortable speaking out. If shady networks try to monetize this real issue, or act unethically in journalism, it just discredits so much. Disheartening to say the least.
Look, I can maybe try to give credit to the producers for wanting to bring issues to light. But the way they did it, and the stuff that's come out like what Marc is calling out....the subsequent Drake stuff....this ain't the kind of outcome we wanted to see for an issue like this.
Insane. We have people in this country playing making up shit about people with certain politics being Satanic baby-eaters while this shit continues to happen in broad daylight Nothing will make me happier than the day they're finally brought down.
I live a 10 minute drive from their equivalent to the Vatican and I can testify that every Scieno I know is a huge Trump supporter.
An extremely smart thing for a celebrity to do and an extremely dumb announcement to make about it, lol.
That doc should not have been allowed to be made until someone was responsible enough to make it properly.
I already saw a friend of mine make a post about how they'll "support Drake Bell no matter what". This world sucks.
Learning that my 10+ years working for Nielsen gives me a kind of cynical perspective that really cuts through all this culture war in Hollywood bullshit from the right. I am having to explain to adults that media corporate executives only "agenda" is pushing up the stock and keeping shareholders happy, and any "wokeness" in tv/movies isn't actually sincere on the corporate side (of course it can be sincere on the production/artistic side). They feature progressive plots because advertisers pay more for 18-34 and higher education/income viewers. They feature diverse casts because advertisers pay more for black and hispanic viewership, also they have to market to a global audience too. The cultural mood in media is dictated by the market, and the market doesn't give a shit about trying to connect to the people it knows it already has in the bag regardless.
Before I scrolled all the way down, thought they meant Drake as in Aubrey Graham and how sad that it still tracked.
David Chang threatening to sue multiple small businesses over their own versions of chili crunch/chili crisp is wack as hell. Not really an accountability thing but feels like something people should be aware of
Dude is stressing a lot of mom n pop shops with his "trademark bully" tactics because he knows it will give them financial pressure. What a scumbag. Going to try to avoid Momofuku whenever possible.
Kind of goes beyond accountability, but I just wanted to say (especially in light of Quiet on Set) how impressed I was with The Truth vs. Alex Jones on Max. Totally different subject matter, obviously, but the way it is presented without mentioning the shooter's name once, centering the victims and their families when discussing the shooting, and intelligently going after a different symptom of the fucked up way our media intersects with politics right now was brilliantly handled imo. Lots of courtroom presented without any kind of further comment, because it's clearly not needed.
