Before I even tried to listen to one of his bits the first thing I said to my fiance was "well, that's a punchable face". And then his stand up on trans people backed me up. What a gross dude.
I said something similar in the comedy thread, but I can’t comprehend how this guy is only 28 and thinks these kinds of jokes will land in 2023. Just really hacky and mean spirited.
in 6 months nobody will remember the name matt rife, not worth getting your day ruined over. guy sucks.
The post is from a few years ago so it’s interesting outlets are picking it up now, but I think it’s good that they are. Better late than never. Fuck Brad Pitt.
I think you highly underestimate his popularity. He’s gonna have at least a five-year run before he goes full Dane Cook and everyone forgets about him.
Unfortunately true. I was shocked to find out how popular he is despite having never heard of him. If he’s made it this far doing edgelord downward punching comedy then this type of controversy will only improve his relevance
that’s the confusing part…isn’t his target market like 90% women? I don’t see how he appeals to them with his brand of comedy.
true.... plus he will certainly get his 15 minutes of fame as far as the right wing grift is concerned. they love to hold up 'cancelled' comedians for the sake of it.
A lot of women also support Barstool and the Legion of Skanks folk and a lot of them really don’t like women. I think it’s an early Dane Cook thing of sometimes a guy with good looks, confidence and a few relatable zingers is enough to sell out arenas.
The TikTok comics are pretty much all dirtbags. There have been all sorts of issues with a lot of them. I’m glad all their specials are flopping. They’re ultimately just good at cutting clips of audience participation segments so then people sit down to watch their actual bits and it’s terrible. I don’t think they’ll go away over night but I do think it’s all starting to go a bit downhill
Most of them seem to be stuck in that super edge lord type of comic and it's do stupid. I feel like there's a way to do it, like Anthony Jeselnik, without putting down marginalized groups, like Rife, Chapelle, Gervais, etc
