Curious on this take, just the American celebration or the actual theory of honoring Veterans of any way/armed force?

I just didn’t get the day off work so I’m not going to celebrate it until I do

But asking me to thank veterans for my freedom is also a joke, the vast majority of veterans of war have imposed imperialism and suffering on other people that were no threat at all to my freedom. That’s due to our government misleading them on what our military actually does and in some cases forcibly drafting them to war but Veterans Day is a big contributor to that jingoism and lie.

When it comes to military service, we should be sympathetic to those who were drafted or were forced to join due to economic factors, but being in the military is not an honorable thing.

Turns out chris Pratt actually inspires more conversation about accountability than some nonbelievers initially thought

Yeah, those who were drafted in WW2 and 'Nam....were forced to (or bravely turned down) things I wouldn't wish to do over one thousand lifetimes. I wouldn't make a Veterans Day post, but I respect them.

  17. So you guys are saying after a certain point in our history if you willingly fight in a war you basically support the military industrial complex and western imperialism of our country?

  19. Hot take overt patriotism and excessive display of the American flag is kinda an ick

(and a thin blue line sticker on a truck is a big red flag)

People who dress in patriotism are like that 30 year old who still hangs around his college after graduation: we get it, you were so enshrined in it all during school; time to grow up and move on

A childhood friend joined the military simply so they would pay off his $400,000 ITT Tech degree that didn’t get him a job anywhere.

When I asked if this was common he looked at me with huge eyes and whispered, “big time” and would tell me terrifying stories about how, “if you think government doesn’t know what they’re doing, you would be horrified to know how much worse the military is. 90% are like me, fucked by a bad school and idiot interest rates and loans and the 10% have wanted to kill their parents since 4th grade and take out all their aggression here and most are anxious as shit to go ‘fight in a war’ or something”.

I think about him saying that and the look on his face a lot.
