Yeah I remember they came out and said they were waiving rent during the month of April during early covid as if people struggling with rent from covid would be good by May. I don’t think they expected everyone’s reaction to be “wait you’re landlords?” Lol
There was also Kristen Bell’s whole “Purple People” fumble: Kristen Bell addresses criticism that children's book teaches 'colorblindness'
At a certain point a person is so shitty that I can't continue engaging with their work; Dax and Kristen aren't quite there yet for me. But I guess that's more about my personal morality than it is about holding them accountable (and in this case I'm not even sure what that would look like). Yeah Simu said some dumb stuff but I'm still gonna watch Shang Chi, but also I probably won't be able to watch Jonathan Majors if he shows up in Loki S2. It's hard to quantify, and I feel like I'm steering the thread off track...
This specific instance of transphobia is one of my biggest fears when interacting with people so I totally feel Angelica about the voice insecurity and the impact Emma's behavior had on her afterwards. Fuck her
Ryan Murphy punishing women of color when they raise concerns about their white woman co-worker? It’s almost like he’s done that before!
Emma yay! I mean yeah it's the bare minimum but it's already more than most people would've done in her position which I guess says more about celebrity in general
Apologizing after there is public backlash doesn’t tell me too much but the bar has been set so low since most celebrities deny everything and claim the woke mob is the real problem
did Roberts post anything on social media as a response or apology? Ross did not have to publicly acknowledge that Roberts apologized so, it kinda seems like a better step to me if she reached out privately over posting something PR-created.
I think there's room to believe that she's becoming a less shitty person. If we don't allow for any belief that people are changing then we're not really getting anywhere. You could very well be right and I'm sure in a lot of cases are, but the fact that the first we're hearing of an apology is that she called Angelica personally is a positive sign
Yeah I have no idea either way. It was a pretty shitty thing to do and an apology is just the start of making it right but you’re right it is a positive sign. Ultimately I don’t know how any of these people really feel but personally I think an apology is just a start because it’s highly likely she’s treated other people the same. And I don’t know what the solution is for the sheer amount of gross or disappointing stuff that comes out about celebrities and this industry. I’ve come around to just not being a fan of anyone and just enjoy the work that’s out for what it is and if someone does something gross I can more easily write them off for a while. I don’t think all transgressions are equal and of course people can change and not everything makes someone’s work not enjoyable. There are some extremes like rape and sexual assault that really shouldn’t be given more enablement ever but other than that I don’t write everyone off completely. It’s not like there’s much actual accountability even when a few people like me write someone off anyway.
Yeah I agree! That’s why I said it was a good first step. I think I’m just in a place where if I believe no one is actually remorseful it feels like there’s no point to even trying.
Is this as bad as transphobia? Of course not, but fairly recent and says a lot about her character, IMO. Just think she sucks through and through.
Eh, idk, I always feel weird about interactions like that being posted in here. Being famous is weird and you never know what kind of day someone is having. It's not a great look, but there are real transgressions she should make amends for that aren't asking a stranger to get out of her way lol
