“Love” it when people go to bring ~nuance~ to matters like this, but then stop short of the level of nuance that leads to the asshole still very clearly being in the wrong.
That response is either ignorant of his actual “jokes” or she’s being purposefully obtuse. Chappelle compares trans people to that white woman who tried to claim she was black and says it’s like if LeBron tried to play in the WNBA. He is saying the opposite of what Michelle is saying, he is saying they can’t actually be women in his eyes (he’s even called himself a TERF). And it’s always frustrating to see people using the black struggle to deflect or justify contributing to oppression or hate against another oppressed community.
The interview gets even worse, she defends Louie CK because he at least offered an apology. such bad takes from her.
When she started doing those comedy shows in Austin organized by Chappelle and Joe Rogan in 2020, that felt like a pretty good indicator, haha.
I was gonna say that's a surprising take coming from her but I guess I just wasn't paying attention, I only know her from Seth's show
Yeah, her being in with that crowd is generally pretty well known. Here’s a photo from 2020 with some other surprising and not so surprising faces She also got really weird about defending Ted Sarandos after Hannah Gadsby publicly called him out for using Nanette as an example of why it was okay to release Dave’s specials after not fairly compensating Hannah
Oof, thanks for the heads up. Makes sense as to why nothing showed up when I tried to do some searching, didn’t even consider that. I did come across some Jaleel White stuff from 11 years ago but didn’t know if there was maybe something more recent
And they would be correct it seems. Musk is already in the replies backing up Russell's conspiracy theory bollocks. Rumours are that it is also about David Walliams and David Jason, who are much less well known in the States I guess. They haven't responded yet.
I'm legit surprised (pleasantly) to see an interviewer push back. Seems like a lot of pop culture journalism I see is just fluff pieces for the interviewee. Cool to see them challenging it
