are we making the excuses just because shes jenna ortega? i am so far beyond giving any celebrity who has a publicist and an internet connection the benefit of the doubt that they ‘dont know’ about shitty people.
Not excuses. Some people really don’t keep up or actually spend their time online in communities where such reports can easily be seen. How many people this on site even come to this thread regularly? Seems to be the same 20 people.
I think, ideally, yeah, she should cut him out of her life, boot him off the show (now that she's an executive producer). anything short of that shows lack of solidarity towards abuse victims, so it's really disappointing that she hasn't. but that being said, I can understand being reluctant to cut out someone close to you. and also I think she's receiving a disproportionate amount of the backlash based on proximity to the shitty person presumably because she's the face of the show and also a woman. We don't know if she knows about him, or why she hasn't cut him out, or why she deactivated her twitter. I don't think I'm making excuses or defending her, shitty is shitty, but she shouldn't be the one getting canceled. And besides, there's levels to it. Someone can be slightly shitty and I'd still watch their movie as long as they haven't crossed a line, and as a consumer that line is different for everyone.
If you didn't use this thread how many of the reports within the past year or two would you know about? Be honest. I'm willing to bet no more than half. I know for a fact I'd only know about a quarter of them at most. My Instagram is nothing but friends and gaming memes. On Reddit I only follow language learning subs, geopolitics, and gaming.
https://people.com/sports/tiger-woo...nts-nda-nullified-over-sexual-assault-clause/ Tiger Woods has always been trash. NDAs are bullshit, I hope she gets justice.
She’s receiving backlash for praising him in the wake of allegations. All she has to do is say sorry but I didn’t know if she didn’t know. It’s not like she’s the victim here and some backlash (I really don’t know how much she’s gotten because I’m not in the Twitter space) is a good thing because it’s not really about accountability for her it’s just part of accountability for the person who did the bad acts.
I am baffled this is the stance she is taking after having COVID multiple times and long COVID symptoms, especially since all it takes is one person on the set to get COVID and put production to a halt and lots of people out of a job.
Didn't she defend her Doctor Strange casting at the time? Feige has since stated he regretted that decision and I think she said she agreed with him but idk, I never quite forgave her for taking that role away from us (but yeah I'm over celebs being over covid. Jessica Chastain is the only person I remember wearing a mask at the Oscar's.)
Please don't take this as me being glib or something. Just generally curious. Is covid still "a thing" in the states? I'm from Sweden and we have no protocols and I don't think I've even read about covid in at least a year. If this is the wrong thread and if my question rubbed someone the wrong way i'm sorry. The post about Swinton just got me thinking about this.
People are still getting Covid and the effects of long Covid are still present and will be for a very long time, but it seems like the general public stopped wearing masks and there are no protocols, except doctor offices. People still get boosters and absolutely should. I do see some people wearing masks though, like at concerts or Target.
Every single hospital system in my area has dropped masking for patients and staff.. and I’m in a blue state. I’m like the only person wearing a mask at work, but whatever.
Masks are still required on public transits here in Taiwan and we were just allowed to take them off inside buildings a few weeks ago. Feels odd hearing about the US and how relaxed it is in some places.
I wear mine at my discretion, I feel awful for my wife who specifically has OCD w/r/t germs and getting sick. We haven't had it yet (knock on wood) but the past three years have put the fear in her and made our lives challenging.
I found it funny recently while travelling that I needed to show proof of vaccination at the airport to fly into the states, a country where covid essentially no longer exists and hasn’t for a long time lol
