I agree with his point later in the thread about getting more of these people to actually visit a city they talk shit on haha
That road goes both ways imo. People being ignorant about areas they don’t actually understand at all isn’t really unique to red state occupants. But yeah I get that most libs aren’t necessarily “resentful” about it
This doesn't surprise me tbh, it's a bummer but Chapelle ran deep in those hip-hop circles and it's not really for me to speak on but I think for some members of marginalized groups, it's easier to look past someone's flaws if you feel as though they have done something for you/the culture. Not sure if that makes sense, I'm not making any excuses, I just see it somewhat often.
It’s good that people are calling Questlove out on his IG, especially because he’s been outspoken about other people, like Kanye. But I mean, it’s clear there are exceptions. Lil Uzi Vert, Charlemagne, Talib Kweli also have pretty bad histories. Just another example of why you can’t trust rich celebrities to do the right thing.
Evanna Lynch: ‘JK Rowling has always advocated for the most vulnerable members of society’ "I was sort of holding on to this righteous republican angle, but I live in London. I’m enjoying the benefits of the British Empire, I love my life here, so I think it was right that I’ve been challenged. During the height of the Troubles, the way of dealing with it was to kind of shut down people who disagree with you... And I do see a parallel in today’s whole cancel culture thing. I just don’t feel comfortable with this idea that if you don’t like what people are saying, you silence them. I do think the next step is violence, really. I think it’s a similar mindset. I just felt that [Rowling's] character has always been to advocate for the most vulnerable members of society. The problem is that there’s a disagreement over who’s the most vulnerable. I do wish people would just give her more grace and listen to her. I do also think it’s important that JK Rowling has been amplifying the voices of detransitioners. I had this impulse to go, ‘Let’s all just stop talking about it’, and I think probably I’m a bit braver now about having uncomfortable conversations."
Maybe because as a kid I grew up watching the cartoon where all four characters were present, I never understood why Winston was left out of the original movie’s posters
Fuck, the Evanna Lynch thing hurts. I respected her a lot for her vegan activism and promotion of eating disorder recovery. I can do without someone who defends terfs, though.
I know trans and two-spirit are two different things but when I saw the scene in question I felt sick. How does fucking HBO not have someone in the room to say that was not okay?
