I don't like Rian or his works, but there's nothing malicious about being cautious of rightwing nut jobs.

I'm really not a fan of digging up all these old tweets.

Sarah Silverman having offensive and racist jokes isn't news unless you know nothing about her

I don't really get the tactic of going after Sarah Silverman except for the fact that they don't like her. Her work with kids movies like Wreck-It Ralph seems like such a small and insignificant part of her overall body of work. I'm sure it pays well for pretty easy work but it's not really her main gig. Getting James Gunn fired off the GOTG films / MCU in general is a much bigger deal than if Sarah Silverman can't do voices on kids movies anymore. And she's kind of known for being offensive and crude. I'm not her biggest fan or anything but as far is I've always known that's kind of her schtick. I'm not surprised to hear that after digging through her past thousands of tweets there was one pretty shitty one touching on child molestation. I was actually kind of surprised at the sheer number of tweets James Gunn had that were honestly just shitty and terrible and not even really jokes. They were jokes in that he made the statements as jokes but I mean not jokes as in nothing clever or even set ups or punchlines - he sort of just said the stupid shit. That was the joke. Even Sarah Silverman's joke had a shred of being clever to it.

I'm rambling but I guess my point is that if they 'take down' or 'get a win' against Sarah Silverman she doesn't do voices for kids movies anymore and she kinda just goes "oh okay, back to the other 98% of my career".

Why don’t you like him? Have you met him? Every indication is that he’s an incredibly nice person and idk why people always need to qualify shit like this.

My interactions or experiences with the man and his work which have shaped my opinion don't have to shape yours, you're free to think what you want as am I, but I'm also free to voice my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. I also defended the man's actions. So take that for what little you will. I'm not expecting "kudos" for it. I'm saying it's fairly obvious to anyone that he's just a man playing it safe which is a smart move when it comes to him deleting his tweets.

They've also represented AMC in the past. I wonder if they'll release more info on their investigation. That does seem like a clear conflict of interest, even if it is a gigantic law firm.

This is so true. Between the things Chloe Dykstra has said and some of the ways I have read about him treating nervous fans by cruelly mocking and making fun of them in public I don't really see why this turd has to still be around. I can not possibly think of someone who better fits the description of replaceable.

I think part of it has to do with (false?) familiarity. @midnight was a nightly show and his podcast had new episodes weekly. For people who watched and listened regularly, they feel like they get to know the person. The same is true for most nightly shows and interview style podcasts. But... it's not really familiarity - it's still just entertainment from strangers.
IMO, calling him uninteresting and talent-less is uninteresting itself. He was an actor (not in a ton of stuff, but in the original Rock of Ages cast and he does voice acting) and does stand up (his nerdy confessional shtick isn't my style, but it is pretty funny and definitely takes some talent). He's done more than just host TV show after shows.

I'm not trying to defend him. He has enough money and clout to defend himself.

Also, Chloe posted a followup message today on her twitter:

It seems pretty clear she wants to move on. It's very fucked up that she has received death threats - I can't imagine the amount of negative attention something like this has brought.

I respectfully disagree on the part about Chris Hardwick having any shred of talent or being in any way funny whatsoever. I find him completely grating and utterly annoying. I've gone back and watched some of his interviews and he is an absolutely horrible interviewer. Atrocious. Completely useless. The person who said he could easily be replaced by a mop with a sign around it that reads "I ALSO LIKE THE THINGS YOU LIKE!" summed him up perfectly. There are honestly thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people with infinitely more talent who would jump at the chance to have his gigs.

His only discernible talent as far as I can tell is ability to read off a telepromoter. There are lots of people who can do that.

It doesn’t matter if he’s talented or not, when it comes to whether or not he did the shitty things he’s accused of.

Fair enough. Honest question - why do you think his podcast was so popular? Just because you find him grating and annoying doesn't mean hundreds of thousands (millions? it used to be consistently in the top 10 podcasts on iTunes) of others people don't. I think that it is interesting that for such a non-controversial person (until recently), Chris Hardwick is really polarizing.

I've honestly just found everything about him front his voice to his persona extremely grating. That added to the fact that I've never been crazy about the whole overly pushy fake nerd thing. To me you can like what you like and go about your business, whether that's comic books or movies or Star Wars or antique kites or car engines or any number of things. He always struck me as someone shouting at me "HEY LOOK HOW NERDY I AM IM SUCH A NERD BECAUSE I LOVE NERD THINGS!" as he was quite plainly very successful and hugely popular.

I'm not dodging your question on purpose but I don't listen to podcasts and honestly only have a vague understanding of what they are. I want to ask if they're basically radio shows but on the internet but I realize that makes me sound 90 yrs old and I'm 35.... My guess would be once he hit a certain level of success he seemed to get in on some very popular things like hosting The Walking Dead show. That and from what I found out reading about him he was able to get good high level guests.

Basically yes, though since the format allows for pausing it has tended toward more long form material and episodic shows that tell longer stories. Since there aren't gatekeepers for podcasts (unlike radio stations) there is also a huge variety of them. There is pretty much a podcast for any subject you could think of.

I know my younger brother has several that I'm pretty sure he listens to regularly. I think I'm gonna have to get with the times.

Hardwick was a mediocre interviewer and an absolutely dreadful stand-up comedian. The fact that he gave Mike Birbiglia credit for his last stand-up was embarrassing. But most important: He’s a piece of shit.
