There always seems to be money to be made once you start pandering to the reactionary, anti-PC/SJW crowd so he's milking it as long as he's allowed to Netflix are trash for enabling this shit
Granted I’m sure some of this comes down to the showrunner, but there’s such a disconnect between the way Netflix has handled Elliot Page’s transition while simultaneously becoming The Transphobic Streaming Platform. I’m sure money is a big part of it but it’s still a little jarring to watch it all happen at the same time.
they love being like I can't be transphobic I have a trans friend but on a corporate level , not just Netflix every corporation
its almost comical with the context of the bit they do in the film where none of the family members know where shes from. but yeah, kinda shitty to say out loud.
Ultimately think it was because they would have been short staffed because a lot of workers called in “sick” according to social media
Dave Chappelle's whole trajectory is the biggest bummer. Jerrod Carmichael's comments will forever encapsulate it well: “Chappelle, do you know what comes up when you Google your name, bro? That’s the legacy? Your legacy is a bunch of opinions on trans sh*t? It’s an odd hill to die on.”
So it's not in response to any single posts in here but I don't really know any other place I can vent about this without getting harassed but... can Amber Heard please get her redemption arc asap? I really don't want to wait 15 years for that to happen, much like in Britney's case (and even in hers, she still gets hate on her instagram posts anyway). What promps me to write this post is how much I hate that, despite the trial being over, I still can't consistently escape any discussions about it as it gets brought up so randomly and always in tactless ways. I'm aware that the general public has been very overwhemingly on Depp's side, and has accepted the villain status the media has given Amber without question... but it sucks how even in the unlikeliest of places, people will casually mention it, either through all the disinformation in his favor, through fawning over his past roles and looks, or through gross puns and jokes made about her. What gets me more than anything is the way it's all done out of the blue, like it's mere tabloid fodder and not the serious subject, potentially triggering to so many, that should be discussed with proper care instead. And also how Amber gets dehumanized in the process.
Ugh I agree. I've seen it die down a lot since the trial ended but it'll still pop out in completely unrelated things. I'll be watching a makeup video and there will be a comment that says like tee hee don't show amber she'll use it to fake bruises!! Just out of nowhere. I was actually really happy the other day because I saw someone on tiktok chew out another user for a comment like that and defended amber and it had hundreds of upvotes which was gratifying. But people just keep trying to drop it into casual convo and it's bizarre. I get grossed out even looking at Johnny's face and i get recommended so many random articles trying to make a comeback happen for him. It's gross
Oh gosh that's exactly one of the things I got to hear that when I was getting tattooed the other week, which is one the instances I mean by "in the unlikeliest of places". It was hard not to say anything, but considering the uncomfortable situation I was in, I felt it was best not to rile the tattoo artists up while they're doing work on me and somebody else It's like people feel obligated to use any opportunity to bring Amber down, like her losing the trial wasn't enough on its own. They sound weirdly obsessed.
