We like to treat pop culture figures who are struggling with such judgement and harshness and then pivot years later, but then we never learn and repeat it with someone else. Well, hopefully some people learn. Not to drag it up again, but I'm seeing ppl talking about the Depp/Heard trial and posting pics of Rihanna's face after she was abused by Chris brown and touting her as a "real" victim unlike Amber and I'm just like ummmmmmmm we gonna re-write history and pretend like we supported Rihanna at the time?? Society treated her like a joke at the time. She was blamed and mocked and not believed either and the irony of them using her as a poster child is just wild to me. I remember not even realizing the full extent of it until I read the report because many of the details were lost in the media circus of it all. Now we're gonna pretend like she is this example of a "perfect victim" and being used to discredit another woman when we treated her like garbage at the time? It just floors me. The thing about the Amy cake too is it's just so cruel for like no reason?? Literally just done to mock with nothing positive to even pretend to hide behind.
yeah the common theme was that Chris is so talented they didn't give a shit what he does outside of the studio separate art from artist blah blah barf
like 100 times, he gropes or exposes himself to everyone he meets and if you ask Jon Lovitz is part of the reason Phil Hartman died because he gave her coke
All you have to do is just go away for a few years and then come back and everything is back to normal huh?
Looks strange to me that they’re BOTH abusers and liars, yet everyone is upset about Amber. Fuck her and fuck Depp, what’s wrong with that? Am I missing something? Amber is not an abuser and a liar, just like her ex-husband? Depp stans are not cool, but neither is she. I would love to see her 100% cancelled just like Depp, so we forget and move on.
Really sucks that Rock is going the “everyone’s so sensitive” route. “Tambourine” is such a great special and vulnerable look at Rock reflecting on his failed marriage, among other things.
Tbh I will say this Depp trial has taught me a lot about the fallacy of mutual abuse and how DV victims/survivors can respond to their situation in different ways that may seem confusing or contradictory to us but when explained by professionals makes complete sense, which I super appreciate. I think earlier in the thread I implied or said they were both toxic or abusive or something and I def take that back. I'm kind of ashamed I didn't realize that before, as a survivor myself and as someone who works with survivors now. I genuiny hope Amber is safe. I worry for her safety with his fans.
Sorry if I'm wrong here because this whole thing has been very much in the background to me, but didn't multiple witnesses talk about how Heard has been abusive to them in her own right? Like people who worked with/under her?
Do you know which witnesses? Tbh this is a case where there is a lot of propaganda and verifiable misinformation so I'd encourage anyone to double check when they hear a snippet or read a headline. Not about your thing specifically but just in general. There are some transcripts floating around of the UK trial which are fairly informative, and include info that has been objected to by depps attorney and not presented in the current trial cause they def don't paint him in a good light. I was surprised by the context I learned when I started reading transcripts of the current trial as well. The reddit link @incognitojones posted has a lot of links and info. Amber herself has admitted to fighting back and doing things she's not proud of, but i think the context is important. It just takes a deeper look than skimming over headlines and snippets and tbh I think most people just see/hear those and take them at face value
Important to remember: Depp lost the UK trial because the court found the allegations Heard made against him were “substantially true.” Funny that never gets brought up in all the breathless pro-Depp coverage the situation tends to get.
I think we're starting to see a backlash on this manufactured narrative but its clear this whole campaign was meant to prop him up and hurt her and her career as much as possible. And its had wide-ranging very public effects.
