Americans are self-centered to the core for the most part. Unless something affects them personally (family member, friend, themselves) they don’t give a fuck what someone like Portnoy does no matter how many women line up to accuse him. Someone is going to have irrefutable proof and MAYBE that will be able to chop him down a bit someday.
There is really no such thing as irrefutable proof to somebody who is determined not to believe something either happened or matters in the first place, especially when it comes to SA
if your first thought is to make any joke at all about the holocaust your second thought should immediately be to Not Do That
Not defending Jimmy Carr at all because I've literally only seen bits and pieces but isn't this like his whole thing? Over the line shock comedy kind of stuff? I could be wrong, I'm just kind of surprised this is only being brought up now because I thought it was well-known that this was kind of his (hack) schtick
I’m pretty sure this special just came out pretty recently, maybe a few weeks ago? Yes, people should’ve recognized how shitty it was right away but a lot of people probably don’t know much (partially because it’s not really taught, partially because they just don’t care to learn) or they just have a lot of bigotry for anyone even somewhat associated with gypsies so they were fine with it.
Yeah, I think you're right, I just mean that his past comedy (iirc) is littered with bits like this. Again, not a bad thing it's being addressed, I'm just kind of surprised it hasn't been before. Then again people obviously care more now, which is a good thing
The Jimmy Carr take sucks. Europe really has no regard for the Roma people. Those kinds of takes definitely don't help. I can't find the exact clip from this doc, but Mel Brooks really had the best take. It was pretty much that jokes about Nazis could be inherently funny. Jokes about the holocaust are just completely off limits. I've definitely recommended it a few times here, but y'all should watch The Last Laugh. Gives a lot of perspective from comedians and survivors about what should and shouldn't off limits.
Have we talked about Leo DiCaprio’s dating history in here before? Because I just found out his current girlfriend is only 24, which is a little creepy due to his age, and then saw that he only dates women 25 or younger. Maybe I’m overthinking this but it’s at least a little…creepy/sus/gross. Edit: Upon a search I see that this was briefly brought up in here once before, but not in depth.
