I’m not gonna post it here but a Google search of “Ted Danson blackface” will give you an idea of what it looked like
i would say that calling Judaism/Jewish people a “race” is a big problem in and of itself that the ADL completely whiffed on but that’s splitting hairs
Never thought about it like that but I kind of agree. At best it would be an ethnicity right? Granted I’m speaking with no knowledge on how those things are decided.
As a Jewish person, I've honestly never given this more than a token thought, because in my mind we're all just humans, but I found this article interesting. It's basically proposing the reason people are so confused about what to classify Jewish people as is because we predate most of the social constructs people use to classify people. Are Jews a Race?
if we’re strictly speaking about the religion, it’s neither, literally anyone can be jewish If we’re talking the other cultural stuff, yes, a lot of it is just ethnicity. If you’re an Ashkenazi jew (i am), you’re just Eastern European person, sephardic french/spanish, etc. all of the Jews are a race stuff were part of the arguments Hitler literally used.
that seems odd and incorrect, as you can be both a) ethnically jewish but non-practicing and b) practicing jew but not ethnically jewish. sure, there are people who are both ethnically jewish and that practice, but a large group is one or the other and not both but I wouldn't expect more from tiktok
I follow a few queer Jewish tiktokers, some who speak a lot on antisemitism, but I'm not entirely sure if I heard the term ethno-religion from Jewish creators themselves. I have no stake in this, though. (unrelated, but if you spend enough time on tiktok you'd find that it's a lot more than dumb dance trends, even though the platform itself is admittedly shitty to queer/bipoc creators.)
That Ted Danson story is mindblowing. To pull that shit knowingly in front of POC audience members... man I rarely reframe celebrities in my mind, but I don't think I'll ever be able to laugh at Ted Danson again knowing that's what his deep down sense of humour is I'm absolutely baffled that Whoopi Goldberg went on to defend that garbage performance from Danson... that says a lot more about her than anything on The View IMO
It is abhorrent what Whoopi said, and there's no defending that, but as pointed above the double standard of suspending her but never once suspending Meghan McCain for all the things she said on the show is truly insane.
Portnoy just feels completely untouchable. it's pure insanity to me how much blind support he has from people in this country.
He also gave a ton of money to small restaurants during the pandemic. I am in a super liberal town and he gave some to one of our local greasy spoons who proudly have a barstool flag next to the pride flag. I am very confused by it every time I pass it.
My brother-in-law loves him and his pizza reviews But he also loves Joe Rogan, Steven Crowder, Jordan Peterson, etc so that's telling
100% my BIL has assured me that COVID wasn’t that bad and the flu kills more people each year every time I see him.
not to mention he has tons of money and anything that would happen to a normal person is just gonna end with him settling
