I didn’t know that stand up specials got rated on Rotten Tomatoes and saw that the new Chappelle special has a 96% audience approval and close to 3K ratings and looking at the first handful of audience reviews it’s definitely people just spamming to make sure Chappell doesn’t get taken down by that pesky cancel culture that’s crushing comedy as we know it
I mean, those are the people who do most all user reviews at this point. Everything needs to be review bombing or praising bad people. There are no more Three Wolf Moon reviews.
This is your first post, so I'll cut you some slack. Not the thread for those kinds of jokes. Hell, its not the site for it.
The audacity of this claim when whoever that is isn't directly concerned by the issues nor part of the marginalized groups Chappelle is punching down on.
"Adults can watch violence, assault and abuse – or enjoy shocking stand-up comedy – without it causing them to harm others. We are working hard to ensure marginalized communities aren’t defined by a single story. So we have Sex Education, Orange is the New Black, Control Z, Hannah Gadsby and Dave Chappelle all on Netflix. Key to this is increasing diversity on the content team itself." You gotta love that they have these examples of LGBTQIA content and then content that directly undermines it. To pretend like Chappelle's jokes about how trans people aren't real men/women/gender neutral being broadcast to millions of people that worship him doesn't have an effect is insulting.
The only thing (inadvertently!) good about that statement is that it pretty much confirms from a corporate standpoint that Chapelle is knowingly pandering to right-leaning racists, homophobes, and transphobes. And Netflix is really showing their ass by being okay with that. As if we needed more confirmation.
what's just as weird is when they turn around like "actually, you miss the point, it's very empathetic to his trans friend". so, what, you do support that and don't think dave's a sjw for it? and yet if anyone else has any complaints, you'e not willing to listen. so yeah, it's just purely hero worship. if chappelle does or says it it's a good thing, anything else and nope, not listening.
Jen Richards literally explains how these things translate to real life harm for the trans community in Disclosure. A documentary. On Netflix.
I see members of the trans community saying this constantly re: the people at whose hands they too often experience violence
It’s funny that Netflix doesn’t have a problem with gay/trans jokes in a proper special. But someone at either Netflix or Chappelle’s camp cut a joke about Don Lemon being gay and self righteous for “8:46.”
