The email from Sarandos is real ugly look. "We aim to be inclusive, but Chapelle makes us a shit ton of money and we don't think what he said was that bad".
They claim they suspended her because she tried to attend a meeting she wasn't supposed to be in? Seems like that's clearly pretextual to me though.
I mean, I’m also fine with him not addressing it at all. He’s not his keeper - he did one movie with him.
I mean ok but that’s being a terrible ally although I’m not sure if he claims to be one, but also this is an industry that’s going through a reckoning with male abusers and if you just want to take a neutral stance when asked directly you kind of suck imo. To each their own though.
If I recall correctly, isn’t that almost the exact same response he gave when asked about working with Woody Allen? I think he ended up donating his salary from that movie but he doesn’t seem to want to make a clear verbal statement about any of it ETA: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.th...t-to-profit-from-my-work-on-woody-allens-film Keeping my original post since I wasn’t completely correct. No clue whether he just wants to try and get everything right or waits for his team to craft a statement. But either way for whatever reason he’s not comfortable talking about it in interviews
i've never found Chappelle to be particularly funny. i don't think i've seen any of his specials, only a couple episodes of his tv show. but a couple people i follow on letterboxd (and even one of my good friends) gave the new special 5 stars, and i'm sitting here like "guysssss what????"
