Oh, y’all never heard of the Veiled Prophet Organization? Yeah, they’re a bunch of crazy rich white people in STL, whom act like St. Louis is their little fiefdom.
Also, what is the genuine point of this? Like is Elle running around spewing racist shit lately or something? That’s from like twenty years ago, that’s a bizarre, random thing to just dredge up for whatever reason. Like VPO sucks but I don’t think I’ve ever read or heard her spewing their bullshit before.
It sounds like she was a teenager surrounded by crazy people lol I'm not sure what people think she should have done in that moment
Also, if you’re from Missouri, it’s known she comes from money. The Kemper name is all over the state. Shit like this drives me crazy about Twitter. Like, why? And what’s the endgame? All you’re showing is you didn’t do your homework.
she's def been part of the conversation with like Nick Kroll about holy shit is their family rich it doesn't seem malicious on anybody's part though it's just shit spreads so quickly on Twitter
There are definitely people who are stoked to “cancel” somebody. Going from that weird (probably/definitely problematic) pageant to “Ellie is a KKK member” is fucking reckless and shitty.
there is genuinely zero harm in people tweeting it out so that the unaware can become aware. no one is saying ellie is attending klan rallies and buddy buddy with richard spencer lol. y’all are so weird about this shit. if this reaches her attention (it won’t) and she makes a statement condemning the group as an adult, it’s a net positive. it isn’t that difficult.
would saying “she was a beauty queen for a weird rich cabal of people in the midwest appearing very conservative that seem to have awful ideas on race” have been better
Haha, honestly, yes. Saying she was a KKK beauty queen carries such a different connotation than saying what actually happened. If anything, I look at her more negatively for being born to an incredibly wealthy family than I do for whatever weird True Detective cabal shit that is. She was a teenager.
to me, i think of it similarly to the people who were born into scientology (though obviously the wealth factors in differently). it .. just is not that hard at all as an adult to speak out about the weirdo shit your parents forced on you. it isn’t. but at the same time, unless they’re actively talking about how they still believe in the stuff, it’s a pretty big assumption to presume that they’re totally 100% down with how they were raised it would seem a bit foolish though to presume she didn’t actively benefit from this group
It’s been said already but yeah, it’s just weird to bring up this thing she did as a teenager in the 90’s and then tweet it out with vague insinuations that’s she’s racist or whatever the intention was. Plus, it’s also just really weird that someone went out of their way to go find this stuff and then post it for no true honest reason other than to start shit just because.
