I've seen TERFs online who have zero problems with POC, and also have zero problems with the LGB communities - I've also seen people with shitty beliefs double down on their shittiness after being rightfully called out for it and too bigoted/proud/stupid to change. So, yeah, those are definitely her views now. She's a monster and a miserable person.
I feel like this is true of most liberal terfs tbh, it's part of how they try to portray themselves as "reasonable" and "progressive" and they use it to deflect from being called bigots
Life comes atcha fast, Patrick! EDIT: And to be clear, yes that dumb asshole Van Morrison also made similar comments. He stinks!
noel sucks. fuck him lol. i don't really think the two things are equal but that's fine and doesn't diminish noel sucking
I thought this was about someone from Cheers which made all of the images that followed really really confusing.
yeah I agree, which is why when someone posts about a public figure doing something shitty I don't come in here with "I never liked them anyway!"
The point is that if you do or say something improper, are called out, and don’t realize your mistake and continue multiple times to do what you were called out for doing, people are going annoyed. I’ve been called out on this website for saying/doing the wrong thing, but I’ve apologized and tried my best to be better, not continued saying/doing it. One of my best friends who reads the accountability threads is a huge TOP and Harry Potter fan and it sucks having someone come in and basically shit on them for being fans of someone who largely showed no signs of being problematic prior.
y’all can block me if you hate my posts so much lol. i ignored your posts bc they were weird. it also feels pretty related to your fandom of JK - plenty of people have said similar things for years on this site and especially around the time of BN and no one was like “wow thanks for shitting on me for liking a sex pest.” @Marx&Recreation did it to me today for liking Oasis despite Noel being a fucking idiot and i called noel out and won’t be posting at Marx a day later about how apparently shitty his post was. bc it wasn’t. it’s fine. so, yeah, i ignored it bc it was a weird post lol
We were just pointing out how it makes people feel bad and worse about themselves (i.e. my friend, who is also currently going through their own mental health struggles and doesn't need to feel like shit more) for just...liking something. You aren't better than others just because you aren't a TOP or Harry Potter fan or whatever. There shouldn't be a holier than thou attitude in this thread. Just because people have said similar things does not make it right. Someone liking someone who turns out to be problematic isn't a reason for people to dunk on them. No one here can see into the future, we have no idea if the people we like will turn out to be bad people or not, so treating us like we're horrible for having been fans BEFORE any knowledge of their problematic behavior is brought to light is not okay. Accountability is holding people responsible for their words and actions, not boasting about how you never liked them in the first place. That is absolutely not the point of these threads (which you were told multiple times before).
all I’m trying to say is that several people have pointed out the fact that comments like “glad I was never a fan” adds nothing to the conversation re: accountability and is likely hurtful to those who were. so like... why continue to make those comments.
I'm trans and I like Harry Potter and that comment made me feel bad, but since another user said something similar to you i guess it's okay
