Welp, looks like she’s setting herself up for a lightsaber to the sternum in Mandalorian Season 3 episode 1.
dude this is just so not necessary. as someone whose childhood was shaped by HP and who has found it very painful learning that JKR is so hateful, seeing posts like this just makes me feel worse
Why do you feel the need to make condescending posts about celebrities that you don’t like (after problematic things come out about them) that are massively important to a lot of people? You did this with Twenty One Pilots recently and it honestly hurts more people than helps the discussion. A lot of people are seriously hurting because one of their favorite authors has become transphobic and the LGBT (especially trans) portion of her fanbase are feeling let down right now.
I was cishet when I learned that Orson Scott Card is homophobic, so I had trouble processing it; I was just so excited that Ender's Game, a series I'd grown up with, was getting a movie, and didn't really get why people were so upset about it to the point of boycotting. I'm trans now and, yeah, JKR needs to go away.
As if the transphobia wasn't enough she went and threw in some islamophobia too. "Shall we go for some halal takeaway?" "Yes, let's get some halal takeaway, which is a normal thing that muslims say"
What is the logic behind this sort of behavior? Any small gain in far-right readers is more than offset by devoted fans no longer supporting her work. Transgender rights and representation are only going to increase as time goes on. I don't know why rich people bother with social media. There are people willing to entertain them at all times.
Sure, but in the past she tried to retcon the Harry Potter series to try and keep up with changing social norms. It doesn't really make sense to retroactively make some characters gay and claim that a main character was actually Black and then make a complete 180 in the other direction. I never read any of the books or saw any of the movies, but it was disappointing to see the way she savagely attacked Jeremy Corbyn for so long. Liberals tend to be on the correct side of politics up to a point and then join the hard-right when social progress has gone far enough for them.
