I think he was referring to this. Obviously the dude sucks and obviously he is reading off a script, but it’s still a good thing that five million of his young and impressionable followers will hear it
My friend worked with him on some of intro stuff for the “Tonight Show” when it first launched, like made sure to sign autogrpahs and talk with fans long after his handlers told him he needed to go. Granted, it was only like a day or two with him, but said he genuinely cared about the fans and crew.
As positive of a step as that is, I've heard some absolute horror stories from folks I know in the industry who have worked with the Pauls. Take that as you will.
I feel like most of the current late night hosts seem to be genuinely nice people. I didn't really get the same vibe from Craig, Letterman, and Leno. (tbf, My Next Guest Needs no Introduction is essential viewing.) Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say that, while blackface is undeniably terrible and it's definitely not my place to forgive him, I'm inclined to give Fallon the benefit of the doubt.
I think those late night hosts are shallow and care more about celebrity culture than they do about actually doing the right thing. Which makes sense because that is the job basically. I still remember Fallon having Trump on and rubbing his hair and normalizing him around September of 2016. That entire late night culture is a net negative imo
if this is regarding him doing blackface in Tropic Thunder, he said this in January Robert Downey Jr. Has No Regrets Over ‘Tropic Thunder’ Blackface: ‘It Blasted the Cap on the Issue’
I think we can all agree that 30 Rock and Tropic Thunder using blackface to say celebs are morons was dumb and they shouldn't have done it
i think the tropic thunder thing is comparable to the blackface scene in mad men, which i have never seen anyone criticize
The Tropic Thunder thing is literally about how Hollywood is so racist they'd cast white movie stars in POC roles and it was accurate. Robert Downey Jr. wasn't wearing blackface, he was playing a white actor who was wearing blackface in a satire.
Having a character in blackface to criticize blackface has to be treated differently. You would not call someone a murderer because they played one in a film.
Patrick Kane is truly disgusting. So many stories have come out about him over the years. Him doing blackface isn’t even a little bit shocking.
yeah he’s been a shithead literally since he was drafted. assaulted a POC cabbie, is a rapist, and this. fuck him. scum
From a lot of stories I've seen Corden is a huge asshole, and I can believe it On the other hand, I've heard nothing but amazing things about Craig Ferguson as a person
Craig Ferguson is almost certainly the most thoughtful of the white dude hosts from the past few decades
Yeah, it's hard to tell from just their late night personas. I wouldn't have thought Corden's a jerk and Craig's a great guy but I can totally believe it. Kinda like how apparently Ellen is terrible off camera. I think Letterman on Netflix is very different from Letterman on the Late Show. Then again, I didn't really watch a lot until Colbert took over. Speaking of personas, the Colbert Report was a thing... Anyway, I still think Fallon is a genuinely nice dude.
Not surprising given her history, but lord read the fucking room. There is not ever a time, but now is REALLY not the time.
