I’m 99% sure the walker is for show.

He may need back surgery but I used to work with people who were getting ready for surgeries and we had a lot of people with back issues and NONE of them ever used or were recommended to use a walker. It’s a sympathy ploy. If you need back surgery a walker isn’t going to alleviate any of the pain.
